Hip replacement whole leg in extreme pain

im 37, had a mini hip replacment dec 2017. all has been ok after long recovery. few aches and pains but nothing major. today i slipped a bit on icy footpath and have been out in the cold most day. my leg is now inbetween theobbing and tingling like pins and needles. do you think its anythig to be concerned about or just from cold weather..

Hi Kim, could you please expand on ‘mini hip replacement’ please? Where are you based and what/how/which procedure did you have? It helps folk on this site to advise any appropriate help, encouragement and advice going forward, (god I hate that terminology!!) Hope you get well soon
Helen

Hi, Id be getting that looked at? If it is something of concern the sooner its found the sooner it can be repaired without permanent damage. Good luck with outcome.

its better to see a dr for xray to be sure the isnt a hairline fracture, or loosening of the implant. since you had a small length insert-mini hip…it could be that the slip and fall has hurt the area of your hip or your back. tingling usually points to a nerve that is pinched in the back or hip area. also ice the area take anti inflamatories . it could be swelling from injury causing the tingling. just all guesses. i had 3 thr so not a dr just hoping to encourage you to see a dr for a evaluation. take care.

thankyou. i didnt fall just slipped. seems better this morning. im wondering if its just when it gets cold?

hi a mini hip is same as a fhr but its a much shorter shaft. It isnt cemented in,its hammered in to a small hole and then the bone fuses to it. i am in london area and i am part of a case study on the mini hips. as they are much better for younger patients to be able to preserve bone for later lifee to the be able to have the normal hip replacment. i believe there are only 4 consultants in the uk that do this x

take it easy . good to hear your feeling better. hips can be tricky…keep in good shape and you will have many good years of mobility.

Take some pain meds … do some icing … See how the pain is after a day … but definitely call your surgeon’s office and describe the fall and your symptoms to a nurse. They will be able to tell you how severe this is most likely just over the phone … Usually for serious hip problems (like an infection or a serious break), the pain is excruciating.
