I had a hip replacement 18 years ago and have been experiencing constant pain in this hip for about a year.  My walking is now very restricted .My doctor referred me to orthapeidic clinic.  I went to see a very junior surgeon today who has suggested that pain I am experiening is not coming from my hip but from arthritis in my back.  I am surehe is wrong and he is referring me to see a consultant he assures me is more experienced in this field.  If I do require surgery,  How complicated is replacing my present hip?

Ask for a xray of UR back TO SEE.... AND OF COURSE BACK PAIN IS CAUSED BY HIP IMPLANTS, & many other issues.  U know its UR hip causing pain it's the same as it was before the hip implant.its something u never forget. They do wear out in the ball joint area from wear and tear, many other area wear out. It sounds like UR first surgeon was a gem for u to get that much mileage out of one implant..

Be persistent follow thru with a orthepedic hip revision specialist. It all depends on what has to be replaced or if u need a whole new device.. Most liked since UR  current implant is older it would be much more stable and last longer for total replacement & removal of the old implant and revision with a new prothesis.

I go in for revision in the fall. The surgeons r revision specialists. See revision proceedure online to help u with any decisions u may need to make. 

Just ts revving myself up to go thru it again...hopefully u have good family support as I do and that's 50% of the rehab..

Hi Hope, where online can I find the revision procedure? I'm in the UK is it an american site that you are referring to? I have to see a revision surgeon next month and want to be fully prepared. Thanks, take care.

Thankyou for your advice.I was wondering howcomplex removing the implant I have, will be.I will look on line for revision procedure.  As you say it is good to have family support.  I have my husband of 53 years  and also family and grandchildren living locally. Look older manufacture STRYKER... DUPUY....ZIMMER  hip implants or UR local sites .  Google hip joint surgical proceedures video or annimation revision..

U will eventually find it. Sometimes takes some searching.

It's very rare that u will encounter complications for UR revision. A higher % of THR revisions have positive outcomes..see 20 tips before surgery in one of my discussions.

I had my first THR  and a half years ago and he said I needed my 2nd one almost as badly so he had me booked in for the 2nd one 3 months after the first....Then he cancelled it. He said it was referred pain from my back

Back specialist.......who said it was referred pain from my hip {to back} I do have arthritis in my lower spine and kypho scoliosis. My mobility got worse but whether that was because of the first THR or whether it would have go worse bescause of the scoliosis????? I dont know.

I had my 2nd one done in the hope it MIGHT help but it didnt
