I am 53 had a total ceramic on ceramic hip replacement in August 2010. Before my op everybody I spoke to seemed to know somebody who'd had it done and was telling me what a great difference it would make to my life. I have done all the physio exercises I was given every day as I was told and do plenty of walking but 4 and a half months on I still have pain and a great deal of stiffness in the new joint and, to be honest, it feels no better than before I had the op. Am I doing something wrong, is there likely to be a problem or am I just being impatient?
No u I did nothing wrong. I have been tru tree. The first two were great. Afew months after tha third one I complained it was not right I was in pain and still cannot put all my weight on one leg or weight change gong up down stairs . When I spin a bit my hip explodes with excruciating pain. This has been since 2011.
as it turn out STRYKER pressfit modgular mech ABG ll was recalled less than a year after my implant. I am now awaiting revision in the fall. I have suffered tissue necrosis and PSUEDO tumors due to MOM in the design of the implant.
To be sur go back to UR surgeon and ask for an explaination for UR pain that UR not feeling at all comfortable and the THR is as painful as before surgery.
i am so sorry this has happened to u . I hope the dr will help u thru to a better resolution soon.

I am 54 and have had my left hip replaced over a year ago now. Similar to yourself, there has not been the expected result, I am still struggling to place my full weight upon my left hip. I did not expect to still be having to use a walking stick. Very disappointing. One leg is longer than the other and I have pain when walking without the stick. After going through the pain of major surgery it is galling to still be having problems, so I can empathise with you
Hey Guest
Given your experience described at 4.5 months - I'd be curious to know how it has gone since then? You posted over a year ago saying it was still uncomfortable and stiff at 4 and a half months post op. That seems plausible to me given how big this surgery is. How are you now? Do you recall how it felt at 6 months, 8 months?

I had a ceramic THR May 2010 - thought I'd be pain-free after! They don't warn you that is unlikely. I have suffered badly with depression since - I was a slim, young, active 55 yr old, with a newish live- in relationship, that has now ended. I have one leg longer than the other, so have to have an insert in my shoe. My hip is swollen with dropped muscle because the surgeon (or his side-kick) did not repair it properly before I was stitched up. If I walk more than about a mile it swells & I can't sleep on my side that night. I hate being in swim wear now. At some point I'll have to have my other hip replaced, & I am dreading it.
You may never be pain-free I'm afraid.
