Hi
i found this group via twitter before that i felt very alone scared and frightened with being diagnosed with osteoarthritis and the thought of having a hip replacement.
i did find some very useful support and advice from arthritis uk.
because off my age im 43 there is no support groups within my area. I was referred to one group however everyone was over 70!
just wanted to thank everyone and im glad i found this group
hope other people get to know about this useful group and not suffer by themselves
hope everyone is well xx 😊
Yay for having a place with a bigger pool of peoples to talk too!
Would be interesting to know what you younger group of OA sufferers have been told about the reasons behind early onset... Diet, hereditary, virus, polluting chemicals, over exertion through sport? I always think mine was conceived 15 years ago when I went down down with an unidentified virus and that it was gestating all these years. Had I understood then I might have been able to make adjustments. In my case it was clearly visible in a bone density scan I had 10 years ago in the femur area....no one said anything yet now when I look at that image it is obvious. Surely prevention preferable to THR and far cheaper for the nhs.
They claim mine as a result of the first surgery I had due to a tumor (at 25). The last 7 years have just been a rapid decline from there. I know that doesn't help a lot.
Yes it's real good site, took me ages to get on it I kept trying to get on via my iPhone but had to do it thru proper computer but it's nice to hear everyone's opinions, I am twelve weeks post op and disputes few blips, slipping in snow and being poorly with an infection my hip is going great guns, brill surgeon and if in years to come I had to have left hip done I would not be as scared second time around. I had mine done at the barlborough treatment Center in Chesterfield ad could not praise staff etc for all they did to look after me they were brill.
Hi
i had a car accident 2007 which left me with severe back problems effecting mobility, also had hip pain locking of hip etc hwever was told by medics that it wasn't hip but back.
until 2013 when finally got diagnosed with osteoarthritis such a relieve tbh thought i was going mad!
first hip replacement April 2014 now other hip to be done February 2015 😊
Hi there. I was a bit like you. I had been for mri scan and all the tests that u get for years before they finally told me it was osteoathritis and it was the receptionist at Dr surgery told me. Did not know much about it but remember thinking its a life long illness and I'll end up in a wheelchair.. I was 36 at the time. Took me another 3 years to actually be told that I needed a thr.. They said I had hips of a 90 year old but because of my age wasn't going to do a hip replacement . How stupid is that... Yeah your in agony but you don't fit our age group.. Anyway got it done year past aug and this site was really good for those days when u think the worst.. Don't get me wrong wasn't the easiest op to get done and never thought recovery would be so long it is feel so crap but it was worth it in the end... Don't worry someone on here will always talk to you but just remember everyone's experiences are different .. Chin up
Yes it's a great forum,with nice people.
I might be here on a bit more soon after my 2nd THR.on Feb 6th.
The op itself isn't worrying me to much, but the thought of the possible complications after the op really is starting to worry me.
Yes this forum is wonderful! Welcome!
Dawn
Sending you hugs. When is you THR? So w can pray you through.
Hi my 2nd thr is 18th February...alittle anxious but hope i have better nursing care than before...consultant was a gem! Physio was excellent.
😊
Hi Denise
No need to be frightened. You will not feel a thing when you have it done (whether spinal or general anaesthetic) and then its just recovery, which can be painful but you will feeel improvements every day
Good luck
