Hip replacement

Hey, had my hip replaced in January and all okay but find that I still get really tired easily. Is this normal or is it just me wanting to be able to do too much too soon? Also, am still very stiff whenn I stand after sitting and some days am not walking too brilliantly. ANY IDEAS FOLKS PLEASE?

Hi I had my right hip done Sept last year and I still get very tired and stiff. I was told by consultant that it can take up to a year to get back to normal normal if you know what I mean. I am just waiting for call for my pre oo and op for my left one. Plus u am still sleeping on my back as cant get comfy on either side.

ps I am 60  think age and fitness makes a difference . I was not fit!

Hi Jane! I would go and see your gp or consultant! I am utterly exhausted! But had a ga! Instead of spinal block!I am 5 weeks post op today! Still a way to go! We are all different!where did you have your op? I had mine in Woking at the Nuffield but on the NHS!! Regards Amanda

Hi hun

I think alot if it is the left one now. I think that is not helping the recovery. Plus I am worrying about the medical I have tomorrow with dwp as I was put in work related activity group and they are trying to get me to do silly training etc. Despite me having OA COPD Raynauds and carpel tunnel.

Hoping to hear this week about other op.

Jane😊

I was told after I had been sitting for a while, to get up and walk around a bit in case of any stiffness, but not to stand still in one position for any length of time.  It seems to me that little and often is the best option.  Not to go for too long a walk and not to sit for too long a time.  The Physio said two shorter walks were better than one long one.  When I stand to do the ironing, I iron some things and then go and put them away and then iron some more and put them away, so that I am not standing in one position all the time.  Hope this helps.

Hi jane, ditto ditto ditto!  I had my op.  7th Feb. and like you I still  get tired and yes, after sitting for a while I am really stiff when I first get up. Once get going not too bad. When walking I get very stiff back after a while. Get quite depressed sometimes as feel I not making any progress. I still go to physio and have told them and they said its getting the muscles built up and will take time. Patience is the key I suppose. I think I have heard so many people say that after the op they are pain free, which I was for a while, probably the painkillers.  And I suppose it's a different pain, more an ache.  Moan over. Helps knowing I am not the only one. Take care

thanks for your reply. Take care.xx

Thanks for your repy - yes, please keep me imformed.  Am 63 and was under the impression that I would be up and leaping about like a spring lamb!!!! I am not fit either -too much chocolate!xxx

Hi, hadd mine done in Hexam - brilliant hospital but like you can only so so much.  Take care.x

Thanks for reply - will try to do less but more often.xx

Thanks for reply. Yeah, it's good to have a rant!!! My muscles musst have been bad to start with and I must admit exercisin is helping but it's a long roadd..... Take care.xxx

had mine (both) Jan 27th --- anterior.... feel great, no pain but like you get tired.... I had not realized how much energy it takes to get through a day!  Especially being back on my own again, (my parents took me in for 5 weeks)

I find if I sit for more than 30 minutes I get stiff, luckily my job is working with students in 30 minute sessions so I have to get up to go get the next kiddo

by the end of the day I am very tired and need to let my body rest ...

Did the 4 hour drive to my parents house last night and that was tough, stopped twice to move around and used the cane the second time.... (I hate to drive and there was so much traffic,,,, sitting on the highway going 20 mph did not help either)

Every night when I get home from work I ice my legs (suggestion from the PT) they do not feel swollen, but after trying the icing, it definitely helps quiet the muscles

all that said, you are quiet NORMAL

ditto linda !!! I do not feel pain (it is all relative, but when I think about before surgery, this is not pain)  I do feel sore, and if I get "lazy" and do not pay attention to walking properly (standing tall, pulling in the core muscles, not trying to walk too fast) my back does get sore.... once I start paying attention again, the soreness goes away

Yes you are right Deborah, it's no pain, but stiffness and soreness. Like you say need to concentrate on posture. Still, think we are all doing well. Pat on the back for all us hippies!! Xx
