I had a hip replacement on October 20th 2014, I was left 8 weeks after without any contact from a hospital, so I had to pull along on my own, I'm 17 years old, and was very scared, I still have ongoing problems now, still have pain, and discomfort. I was just wondering if anybody can help me, or has experienced any pain 6 months after?
Please help me.
Lois.
Dear Lois, how dreadful for you !
i am only 12 weeks on and 60 so can't advise you .
Do you have family support ?
go back to your GP and tell them the state you are in , don't let them put you off , take a strong friend or family member with you and good luck.
let us know how you get on .

Hi Lois , are you in the uk ?
Dear Lois, I am sorry to hear that they dropped the ball on the follow-up you needed post-op. I totally agree with Mary to make an appointment and bring a strong advocate for you for support and to help discuss your situation. I would make an appointment as quickly as possible. Hopefully, what you need is more physical therapy to help you relieve the pain and discomfort. Of course, you won;t know till you have been evaluated. Thank you so much for reaching out to this forum and do let us know what happens. We are here to lend an ear and give suggestions. Take care, thinking of you! Susan
Hi Lois,
So sorry to hear about what you have been and still going through. Like Mary said I can't properly advise but as she said go to your GP, explain the whole situation and specifically mention the 8 weeks post op no support from physio. Three weeks after my release I hadn't any support as promised so I contacted the hospital and was told up to me to contact them, no follow up from them required. Good luck and be very insistent in getting further help and treatment. Best wishes to you.
Hello, I'm so sorry to hear your news. I am 42 years old and in my 7 weeks of post op but can't really understand your lack of support from the hospital. I have just had my 6 week check up and then due my 3 month at beginning of September. Possibly try contacting the specialist who preformed the operation or your GP as you need to be observed particularly at your age.
Please keep us informed.
Go to the consultants secretary - asking what is being done about your rehabitation in terms of hip replacement? You can also contact your doctor asking why there has been no follow up? Physiotherapist should have arranged long-term support - and the fact of the matter is that you have not been given long term support or feed back.
Pal - supports patients who needs extra help - make sure you get your facts straight!
Good Luck!
Hi, I also had hip replacement in October and have been to the hospital twice since, once after 6 weeks to check everything was ok and as it wasn't as I had one leg longer than the other, I was sent to the orthotist for a heel uplift, then I went to the hospital again after 6 months and as I was still having a problem with pain in my thigh muscle I had an xray on my knee and now have to have a knee replacement , but I am 74 you are very young to contact the hospital to make an appointment with the surgeon for a check up.
Let us know how you get on. Good luck Valerie
Dear Lois, I feel for you and can only reiterate what everyone else is saying: go back to your consultant and/or GP and take someone with you and go quickly. You should have support from physio to help with your recovery. I had my operation about same time as you and saw consultant twice and physio three times (to make sure I was doing exercises correctly and to add activities to aid further muscle strengthening). I'm much older than you and now fully functional. Warm wishes and good luck

You poor soul. Going by your age and when you had the op, you should be pain free by now. I am much older than you, so can't really advise, but I would go to your doctor first, tell him your problems and ask him if he will refer you back to the hospital and explain the problems you are having. An x-ray may be helpful as well and could show if anything is wrong. Don't give up and don't despair. Hope you are able to get sorted out soon and we will all support and help as much as we can on here.
Thank you Mary, I am due to see my GP on Friday, and I have an appointment to see the surgeon that performed my surgery next month. I will let you know how everything goes.

United Kingdom.
I have an appointment on Friday with my GP, I called the NHS Helpline, and all they told me to do was take pain killers, which never help me.
I have an appointment at the hospital that I had the surgery next month. So I will let you know how everything goes.
Thank you so much.
I have had physiotherapy since, however, because I couldnt make 2 appointments for specific personal reasons, they discharged me, I asked my Doctor to re-refer me roughly 6 weeks ago, and she said that it is usually a 14 weeks waiting line. I have my appointment at the hospital that I had my surgery at next month, and the Doctor that re-reffered me and I think that I won't have been seen by the physio even then.
Thank you so much for your support.
I was going to physiotherapy, however because I couldn't attend two of my appointments through personal matters, they discharged me, I asked a Doctor to re-refer me roughly 6 weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything. I am due to go to the hospital that I had the surgery in next month, but the Doctor and I strongly think I will not be seen by the physio, even then.
Thank you so much for your support and advice.
Just been to my second physio , 12 weeks post op tomorrow .
Bit of a waste of time , told me to keep on with exercises I was give pn in booklet . Everything is as expected after major surgery .
They have a notice up telling you that if you miss spots you will be discharged . Next time make sure you let them know if you can't make the appt .
goid luck

Dear Whalie, I am due to go to my second appointment at the hospital that I had my surgery in next month. I have had more physiotherapy sessions than you, and I honestly do not feel like I am recovering properly, but because I couldn't attend two of my appointments to physio through personal matters, they discharged me, I asked a Doctor to re-refer me roughly 6 weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything. I am due to go to the hospital that I had the surgery in next month, but the Doctor and I strongly think I will not be seen by the physio, even then.
Thank you so much for being here.
I did let them know, hours in advance, I tried to organise others, but nothing. I also felt the physio wasn't really helping, I had to do everything myself, however, I have really bad sensitivity in the tissues and mussles, which makes it hard for me or anyone to touch, also, because of my lack of support, an infection occured, they left dressing on me for three days, luckily my infection was only at the skin.

Due to my lack or support also, an infection occured, they left dressing on me for three days, luckily the infection was only at the skin and didnt go into the joint.
