Has anybody noticed that men seem to recover a bit faster than women? I think it's because mens legs are in general stronger and fitter than women's even if their muscles haven't been used properly for over a year.
Hi Shirley ... I have posted a similar question some time ago because I was wondering about the same thing --- it is like men losing weight faster and easier than women .. maybe it has something to do with their metabolism and body mass (BMI) - curious to see comments from our fellow male hippies ....

Oh sorry I didn't see that but hopefully the men on here will let us know.
no worries shirley - it has been a while anyway -
looking forward to responses too ...
Hi shirley
i think you may be right. Men often say they have walked quicker after the op and not used crutches for so long. This may be odd but women have child bearing hips. Does this make a difference to healing etc.

From what I can see the men on here are all younger men anyway so I think they will heal quicker than older people.
Probably a combination of strength, bone density, age, fitness etc - would be interesting to see if there are any studies published on this.
Hi peeps!
Im sorry to disagree! I seem to be doing very well, I've surprised myself on how far I've got, and even when the enhanced recovery nurse rang to see how I was doing, was shocked!
Have a good day all
linzi xx
I do think men on the whole recover a little faster. Why though... Might have to do with the absolute physical differences (pelvic structure for one) as well as the average highe rnuscle tone in men.
Age, well yeah, that does definitely play into it as well. Look at the speed children recover at...
Yes all worth thinking about. I recovered pretty quickly but relapsed several times and was told I was pushing too hard and expecting far too much in a short space of time. Also I've damaged my cup part of joint (which is plastic ) surgeon said probably because I was trying to run before I could walk and doing things I thought that I felt ok to do
Hi linzi hope you are well. I had a nose and noticed you are a lot younger than me and probably younger than many of us on here so I guess age does count in our recovery process. I'm jealous hehe
Hi Shirley I seem to be doing fine and am back at work now after 7 weeks, but left leg is needing doing ASAP, I just did the bed excercies all the time, pressing my legs into the bed, and pumping my foot back and forward every two hours, and got up in the ward every two hours all the time focusing my thoughts internaly to my wound site, imagining all the little workers putting it back together again, like a medititive excercise when clenching the butt together, I was very sure that that was working for me, convinced now that was how I pulled through so quickly, but still scared of the 90degree rule and still careful not to break it. I am 54, in good shape, and quite big legs for my size. Ian.
Yes I was the same but it's been just over 2 years since I had it done. It was absolutely amazing best thing I ever did but I'm having trouble now. Not sure if it's my back that's radiating into the hip and I won't know until I have my spinal surgery
