Hi if you have terrible groin pain like I did that will be gone. I am now 5 weeks post op and I still can’t believe I get no groin pain. It was the worst pain I’ve ever had in my life. I wasn’t nervous before my op because I had the spinal block where you don’t feel a thing. I had no sedation either because I didn’t see why sedation was really necesssary when you were totally numb and do you know what? I actually took photos of my hip bone/femur they had to chop off!! It was really interesting and I have the photos on my iPhone. I took music down with me ( Elvis 😂wink and it was all ok. I’m not normally a brave person, I just knew I’d be totally numb and I so wanted the groin agony to be over with. You will be fine 👍

Omg your brave lol how did you manage at home at first was it hard x

Hi Debbie

i can't believe that Sarah took photos in the theatre! I'm 12 days post op and doing well. I had spinal block plus sedation which was administered in an ante room before the theatre. I remember the doors to the theatre opening and the next thing I was waking up in the recovery room. Ideal scenario for me.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi Debbie,. Get a good meal plenty of sleep. Everything ready at home for when you get back? Drink plenty of fluids before your cut off. I had my second under an epidural and 4 hours later I was eating, did not need a catheter and felt great. Good luck.

Hi Debbie!

i just had a THR 2 weeks ago. All is going great as I am following all my Dr. directions. My pain has been very minimal and take 2 Tylenol a day.

Go in with a positive attitude!!!! When you wake up you will have a whole new life to look forward to! It is a long recovery but take the opportunity to do things you may have not had time to do like read, learn a new language etc!

Best of luck!!!

Hi Caz and Debbie, wishing you both a good recovery. Drink loads of water, take your meds, do your exercises...... and take it steadily!

Thank you Judith. Ive had the phone to say theres a bed for me and said good bye to my babies as Im in at 7am x

Many hospitals don't allow cameras in OR . it's due to selfies taken by physicians during surgeries of all types, posting online and many patients suing as a result privacy issues. Wow post ur pic for us hippies, you are brave. 👍

Hi hope4cure, I was not allowed a camera or phone into OR. However they did show me my hip in a little bowl and turned it over so I could see all the bits of it.

Yes, very hard because I live on my own and had so much morphine waiting for my op that no painkillers worked very well for me until all the morphine was out and I got used to normal painkillers. I will never have morphine again in my life but I didn’t know just how used to it I’d become. I’m still on Co codamol but I have a lot of osteoarthritis anyway.

Amazing the things we hippies get to see . I have seen the surgery on many videos and didn't bother me. my THR were complicated and was under anesthesia.

What did you think when you saw the that? Now your stronger and dancing ready for New Years!🎉

When I had my first hip done,  also need a bone graft. The surgeon used the bone removed ground up to patch a hole in the hip bone joint adding screws to hold the cup in place.

Good luck Debbie, I got both done 5 weeks ago yesterday, bit annoying as a life in Scotland and it's just been snow and black ice managed to be out a few times but getting cabin fever, just in my experience the day after I was obviously still topped up with morphine and 2 epidural s on spine and in no pain whatsoever I felt great, thought this is a breeze but when this wore off I didn't feel as good but after that every day goes by you feel that bit better

Hi shari. Great advive. Be strong and determined can help many thru THR.

Its deffinately not for sissies as my friends say. But it's all about the future maintaining pain free life, mobility and better quality of life. 🤗

Hi Sarah, it's not easy THR when you live alone I admire your strength and tenacity!  I hope there were many preparations at home before ur surgery. I have a whole list of simple ways to get thru this on our own. What did you do that helped you the most? This for you is still in the healing process. Had mine 7 months ago.

🤗

these are the pics i took but I dont know if you can see them as they look small.....
