I’m 47 and 8 weeks out. when I’m sitting down or laying down and get up I have pain. once I start walking it goes away and it is fine is this normal.
I don’t know what’s normal, as we all seem to have very different experiences, but for me sitting for long periods was the main problem and the pain would go once I was standing and walking. I think that lasted until about 10 weeks.
Yes i remember sitting for long at the beginning was awful i had to get up and walk regularly or my feet would go blue and funny…it was a weird odd restless needing to get up feeling…thank goodness all of that changed!!!
I’m 14 weeks out and having the same symptoms. I go back to my DR on Monday. Maybe i can get some answers.
I’m 11 weeks post OP and still getting muscle spasm pains in the morning .no actual joing pain. I’ve found taking ibuprofen - it’s an anti inflammatory 3 x a day plus hydration salts daily has stopped it . I found on the internet a physio advice abt taking hydration salts to stop the spasms and that’s helped loads. bug my joint itself besides being stiff first thing is fine. I dont tend to sit for long in the day - pre op I’d found advice to move at least every 2 hrs otherwise the joint gets stiff.
I too started with this problem right from the beginning, sitting being painful, but getting “stuck” and not being able to walk initially, then a few minutes later was ok when going. I had a hard lump under the end of my scar which my physio worked on with laser to break it down. however I still have this problem at 20 weeks and no one is suggesting any answers. I am also now in pain lying down unless I lie on my stomach or with my legs and bottom elevated off the mattress. The joint works well, i am exercising, doing physio, just cannot move quickly after sitting. I sympathise and will let you know if I find a cure.
That’s called start up pain and it is normal. It eventually goes away.
what is the pain called if it hurts when you get up from sitting, when you go to lay down, turn over in bed
I don’t know if that is all the same pain! I experienced start up pain when standing up after sitting down for even a short amount of time. I would stand up, wait for the discomfort to stop, then I could walk. I thought I would never get past it, but eventually I did. It took many months.
I’m oddly reassured by this thread. I have had very little pain post operatively (15 weeks since total left hip replacement) other that when i get up in the morning or from having sat for a while. Then i do get some pain in my hip and the sensation that the joint is not as stable as it should be. the pain / sensation goes after a few steps. i am putting it down to the healing process, after all the surgery is pretty brutal on your muscles. by the sounds of things this is not that unusual!
