I am a week past hip replacement been doing my exercise and walking 3 times a day went out this morning and am getting a serious pain when I lifted my operated leg when walking have been laying down as lower leg badly swollen but pain in the hip still I no it early days but they don’t tell you before about the serious pain after was in less pain before so grit my teeth and carry on
it will get better. Make sure you use ice to reduce the swelling. swelling is part of the root of the pain.
When in pain it is hard to imagine it ever going away. A bit like when you are in the middle of a lovely summer and you think it will never end!
if you read through posts on this forum you will see that everyone has issues but they do pass
elevate and ice!
It sounds like you are doing amazing for 1 week on! I totally agree, the pain in the thigh, left side of the leg was horrific. Don’t push yourself too much walking is important but not too much too soon !
I’m 7 weeks on now back at work at 6 weeks. Still stiff and sore in the top of the leg but overall amazing outcome, hip has no pain at all and I even managed to wander around Durham last weekend pain free, what a difference.
You will soon be over the bad swelling and pain, then onwards and upwards. Take care !
Hi Alan,
I did not have any pain after my hip op although, I never went out the first week, I was too scared, after a week I started walking around garden as I thought I had better get some air.
Try not to overdo it too soon, it really needs to heal inside, you will have swelling, various aches and twinges over the next few weeks but, after a couple of weeks you will start to notice improvements which will move quite quickly as each week passes.
