Hi Jean,
I am in the UK as well. I was advised that I should contact a solicitor as it was well known for some years that metal on metal hip implants would cause problems. Just wondering if you wre given the same advice.

Not told this at all by anyone
But a bit mystified as I havent had a problem with mine
Hi Jean,
I was told by surgeon who carried out the revision operation that I should contact a solicitor as the hip implant used in the first operation was not fit for purpose due to the fact that I had such tissue damage and very high levels of metal ions in blood. I now have a solicitor who is making a claim against the manufacturer of these implants
He is acting for a group of patients who had similar problems
There are several solicitors who are making claims on behalf of patients who have had to undergo revision operations
I am fine now apart from occasional muscle aches but because I lost confidence with the NHS and how they responded toy problems I pto have the operation done privately by r well respected surgeon who did several hip revisions
Sorry about the typing errors in the last post.Pressed the send button too early by mistake.
Hi Christine.
When you go to your Hip Class they should talk you through everything also show you what kind of material will be use in your hip replacement. that will give you time to ask any questions on the replacement you'll be having.
Good Luck

Hi Christine,
No, the only people have advised me to make a claim have been my friends! My revision surgeon is quite knowledgeable about this type of implant. He ran several seminars about them when there was first the bad publicity and when some were withdrawn by The Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Authority; he was very reassuring (naturally), said only some designs were causing problems, and that not everyone was going to have trouble. So, no he didn't advise me to sue anyone!
To be honest, I think the original surgeon and the NHS used the metal-on-metal hip in good faith, and I don't think I would want to sue them - maybe the manufacturer. I have looked at some legal websites, but would want to find out a bit more. Could you PM me with some details of what you are doing, please?
Thanks.
Jean
