I am having hip revision Oct. 24th. Starting to get nervous... I had the hip replaced almost 5 years ago. It wasn’t right since day 1! Going to New York City next week for all the pre-op stuff. I hope they can get the stem out easy & don’t fracture my femur😳 I would love to hear from those of you who have had a hip revision. Thank you!!
I had a revision of my twenty year old hip a year ago. The only part that was worn out was the poly spacer but the metal case had been damaged due to the titanium ball being metal on metal. This meant a new ball had to be fitted onto the stem and a new cage and poly spacer installed.
I selected a surgeon who had a very good track record for doing hip revisions and it turned out very well.
Good luck. Richard
Revision on Mar. 8. Repaired fractured femur that happened either during THE or right after. Walked on leg, went to PT...complained of pain and inability to do PT. Still have pain, weakness and can't walk without a cane. Second opinion told me that recovery would take a year.
what was wrong with it and symphoms you had/have?
need revision in both hips was told stem was prob ok but everything need to be replaced,,,ball ,cup, liner,,,,first ones were metal on metal,,,have severe metalosis and a tumor on left hip won,t know extent of tissue damage or bone damage till they get in there so have to be ready for anything, said possible bone graphs and tissue replacement then immobilized till heals could be 6 months,,,,,,,
Hope all goes well with your revision,,,I,ve had 3 opinions and all same..been 6 yrs of hell Good Luck and make sure to get a second opinion from a ortho not in same practice to be sure you are making the right decision will help mentally as well
I had revision as my improperly put in hip finally fractured ... but the only part I didn't need was a new stem.
However, I would say that because I was fitter before the operation (unlike before my THR), the recovery was much faster and better, you're starting from a better place before a revision.
I was nervous as hell before I went in for my revision THR Sept. 12. I was in pain for 7 months before that. It turned out the reason I had so much pain was that the stem was moving around in my femur. So when they opened me up, it came right out. That meant I had same recovery as for a normal THR.
Hope yours turn out well. You never know, it might be a lot easier than you think. Good luck!
