My replacement is being delayed because my liver blood test is a little off - I don't think that seems fair - I've already taken care of obstacles Doc's have thrown at me and now this??

It does seem very unfair, however if your LFT’ s are showing some results that are out of the “normal” ranges it does need to be investigated and sorted if possible. It may be temporary or very easily sorted
Not so bad! Many years ago, after many more years donating blood, I was suddenly refused due to a liver level that some researcher said was related to HIV+ status. A couple of years after that it was nullified and they pleaded with me to donate again. It’s probably nothing.
Hi Pam, the liver is also involved in producing clotting factors do I am not surprised. It also detoxifies our body and processes most medications. It needs to be working well to face the changes that your body will face during and post surgery. I hear you it is frustrating but better be safe always.
Dear Pam, it is really depressing when something like that happens, but the surgeon wants us in the best state of health possible to ensure other things do not go wrong, they do not want to take extra risks which is understandable, it is a serious operation, even a cold will hold up surgery.
To be honest, I really didn’t want to go into detail on all significant liver counts. The doctors have limits that are set on your behalf. They are mainly a stopgap to prevent negative outcomes. As Claudia said, the liver is an important organ with important life supporting functions. In the long run it is probably nothing . Just chill a bit and let the process take its course
Hi Pam obviously not what you were hoping to hear I know, but its for your benefit to delay your op so that they can optimise a fast and safe recovery for you, did they give you any particular information regarding which part of LFTs were raised, had you had any alcohol around the time previous to tests.
My doctor made me take three heart tests, a pre surgery assessment, a hip class, and the list goes on. Five months of that crap while I was in extreme pain. I understand your frustration!
Thank You!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Ty for your response and Of Course I had alcohol before I went to Doc for blood drawing. Ever since this started - 3 1/2 yrs ago (as spinal stenosis later additional x-ray showed actually it's both hips that are responsible for me not being able to walk on my own) I would faithfully give whatever prescription they gave me a good old try but they simply didn't put a dent in the pain - so why bother? I'm not a pill person anyway. So - if I absolutely have to go somewhere 5 oz. of alcohol assists in this process. My Doc Knows this. I'm interested in if you think tht could have thrown off blood test?
TY Mary I did all those you mentioned as well - and I, as I'm sure you, am not a whiner I'm a tough old broad and it's nice to have others that understand. I don't have the insurance I used to when I was able to work but am grateful for the "poor people's" ins. until . . . . my Doctor told me "these delays would not be happening if you paid cash or had "good ins." I appreciate his honesty. lol
The short answer is that as alcohol is broken down by the liver, yes it could have affected the blood results
Yes it will affect but there is a pecial enzyme that spikes.
Best not to drink 48 hrs before draw.
Its the gamma GT that spikes and maybe one other, but even they can spike for other reasons, including bone problems, I think that Pam should ask for the breakdown to be able to know why.
Here in Canada, we get access to the lab results so we can keep our own records.
Yea same here in UK if we ask for them, I always do so I can like you say keep them on record for future reference, my gamma GT is actually high at the moment and its not alcohol related, my Dr says its most probably bone related
