Hip stem cell therapy

Hello

Does any one know of any U.K. hospital that carries out stem cell treatment for hips rather than hip replacement

Hi josephine,

Doesn't look as if research has progressed quite that far yet judging by a quick "google" Spire Cambridge lea hospital are talking about such therapy but  i dont think its quite as an alternative to thr if thats whats needed atb jay

I wish!!

I have good bone density and nothing wrong with my hip but loss of cartalidge, seems rediculas to chop off good bone instead of replacing cartalidge which could be re grown in a lab through stem cell!

Hi Josephine, I am in the US and stem cell Really hasn't been proven to help just yet in the hips.  It's in the beginning stage.  Some people have had success with their knees, but not everyone.  Also, it's extremely costly as insurance companies do not pay for this yet. Maybe once it progresses and more people have success .....

I am having trouble posting the link on here, but look up the Villar Bajwa clinic in London. I have been for my consultations and have decided to go ahead. I have bone on bone in right hip. I will keep you posted to see if it works.

If it does it will have saved me a full hip replacement, can only hope and pray it does!

Hello, yes I know of Richard Villar and have been to see him in London and in Cambridge, talked about different approaches of hip replacements, unfortunately there are always pluses and minuses to all the partial hip replacements and the more I ask and the more I research I hear that whatever I do, I may at a later stage have to have a total hip replacement, so I've decided that as I only want one surgery I'll have to do it!

Hi Veronica

I am in exactly the same position now. Would you mind telling me why you decided not to go ahead? We are trying to balance up the risks, and I am feeling so worried about both options. Did they say the stem cell would work for you?

I am literally meeting with him this week, as the steroid xray precision has just failed, and I feel like I am running out of time as the pain is coming back, and I could not walk or do anything before.

I am a mother of two age 40, so the stem cell represents hope, but I want to be confident that it will work, I don't feel that confident, and would rather not go through two operations....but maybe it is worth it if it works...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I'm just wondering how you got on and what decision you made?

I'm in a very similar situation and I think coming to decision time of whether to go with THR or try the stem cell approach.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

If the Stem Cell really worked well in the USA insurance would cover it. Very few places even offer it. Maybe some day
