Hip surgery yesterday

hi everyone. I had my hip replaced yesterday. was planned for 6th June but got call from hospital Wednesday could I come In the next day due to someone else cancelling. so glad i did. had spinal plus sedation which was ace. had a good nap during it too. sort of knew they were doing stuff but couldn’t feel a thing. in theatre 3 hrs -surgeon said hip very severe with arthritis.
anyway have already been up for my 4 side steps with Zimmer plus a few for a wee too:)
had the best nights sleep I’ve had for ages - ok drugs have helped but even tho I was woken every few hrs for my BP &T to be taken I’ve slept very well plus lying on my backs been fine as now I can put the back of myR knee to bed which I’ve not been able to do for abt 2 yrs.
anyway anyone whose not sure abt the OP imo ho for it

Good morning hope you are feeling great and really pleased all went well.
I’m waiting for my appointment so hope it all goes well for me too.
That was a long time in surgery, must have not been straight forward, bet you will be whizzing around on zimmer today
You don’t say how old you are, probably one of the younger ones
Have a good day but don’t overdo it

yes I’ve been on the zimmer: sat in a chair for 2 hrs but stiff after: been for check xray: now awaiting the physios lol
but yes tbh great relief to have had it done and can now plan for a better future

You will be dancing :musical_notes: before you know it, keep posting as it’s a great spur for me and others awaiting their replacement, what method did you have

Hi Julie1717,

well said. All the best with the recovery & your future plans.

Good luck Julie

I had my hip replacement 15 days ago and progress is amazing

th x all. yes so far only 1 day post OP walked to loo with Zimmer. its sore but nothing like pre OP. having gabapentin penton for 5 days to stop nerve pain. had x 2 doses 1pre then post OP of onicontin ? but now on tramadol paracetamol and ibuprofen. all working very well. helps me keep moving. found the sitting in a chair for 2 hrs very stiff after so def when get home need to get up every 1-2 hrs if sitting. aim is for codeine paracetamol ibuprofen at home if need any. lactulose working very well but was on it pre OP anyway.
wound is on R side of leg with a pressure dressing called pico. supposed to be better than others. atm I cant see any bruising which I’m amazed at. swelling to leg developing but doesn’t feel tight.
I had spinal with light sedation as I told the anaethetist I didn’t want to know what was going off. never felt a thing at all although I sensed they were foing stuff and did wake now and again to hear them sawing and chatting generally. was wide awake at the end and able to thank all the staff In theatre which with a general anaesthetic I’ve never been able to do.
eating drinking fine straight away after too.
all in all i feel itx been a very positive experience and definitely feel so much better. had best nights sleep last night for at least a year. ok was on my back but thsts fine. i can now put the back off my R knee on the bed which i could do for over 2 yrs.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE X

I’m 62 lol. not old or young I suppose

Absolutely not, I’m 66 and definitely don’t regard myself as old, when I think of the 66 year olds 40+ year ago in the crimpolene dresses :joy: they wouldn’t have considered it lady like to wear jeans, mind you want be wearing yours for a while

Brilliant. The pain relief is essential or you go stiff and cant move to do the exercises to progress the recovery

yes when I think of my parents when they were my age they were abt 10 yes older than me in their bodies / minds etc.lol at Jean’s. I’m just looking forward to walking and not being In pain

Thinking its going to be a long process back into skinnies after op cause I personally struggle now cause of hip but you will be great, can you dance OK after hip op cause I haven’t asked that question yet

Hi, the biggest hurdle is the seam on jeans sits on the blinkin scar, apart from all that…best wishes and a speedy recovery x

think you have to be careful cos of twisting. I’m sure someones sd to me my dancing says are over but think they stopped when I was in my 40s - no time never mind anything else lol.

I don’t have a pr of Jean’s lol but should imagine the seam does hurt. I’m wearing skirts and dresses for the foreseeable future  thank goodness it’s the summer - no tights etc

I think you need to be careful walking backwards!

I’ve no intention of walking backwards or dancing thx lol. plenty to see from walking face forwards. just be lovely to be out and abt when I can do so . #nolongerhermitlifeforme:)

That’s OK then!!

I also had mine during the summer, and didn’t need to wear jeans for months! Hope you continue to make good progress, all the best,
Judith

well folks. after progressing from a Zimmer to sticks yesterday and passing the stairs assessment ( I’d already been going up stairs on my good leg just not down on my bad as it hurt too much ) I’m being released today  the staff here have been lovely.
I learnt tho last night not to be too ambitious with the bed exercises as did 10 but then regretted it with the very sore calf muscle till the tramadol kicked in. think itll be 5 or less for a few days. makes you realise how little I’ve been using some leg muscles.
I’ll keep you up dated as things go:)
