Hip surgery

I am 7 weeks post hrs, I'm getting very depressed because I'm not feeling better

What is specifically wrong? Do you still have a lot of pain or is moving around still difficult? You really don't say the problem, maybe you are just depressed? We are very close time-wise as I am 6 weeks post of LTHR today. I have very little pain. I can get around in my house but wear out quickly if I try to go anywear. I do get depressed but it is getting better. The restrictions have been hard but I only have 2 more weeks of those. I think that will be the point where I will feel much better. Keep your chin up, it just takes time. I had knee replacement last year and that took almost a year, so this is much easier. Although I have been far from normal for too long now, so really looking forward to recovery and a sense of normalcy. Hope that is all it is with you too and you start to feel better.

I Understand your frustration. I needed to seek mental health as I became very depressed about not progressing. Structurally I was fine but muscles and nerves were in fire.

Don't delay if you think you are headed in that direction. Imho

Best to you

Aw love it takes months and months to recover ! Hang in in there at 7 weeks I felt rubbish too ! X

7 weeks to early to feel great. It take time, just hang there it will get

better with time. Take one day at the time. It is brutal operation and you are heeling and heeling take while. I feel down when I was 6 to 8 weeks

after hip replecement ,pain ,could do nothing, but with time get better.

Cheer up

Hug Madlla. 💗

Morning Rayma...sorry to hear about how you are feeling. 7 weeks is still pretty early on tho. Can you give us more information as to why you feel this way? Are you in pain, are you limping? I'm almost 11 months out and I still am struggling. I had to have a total hip revision 3 weeks 2 days later because I dislocated my first hip replacement. Was 6 weeks non weight bearing and no hip exercises or hip flexion past 80 degrees. I'm now dealing with hip stiffness, nerve pain and sensitivity. This is a major surgery and it can bring one down especially if you are an active person. I too still get depressed and cry. It's been a long slow tough road to recovery but I'm getting there. You will too. Just give it time. Are you exercising, doing physical therapy? God's blessings, healing and peace to you. Hugs 🤗 Linda

Rayma,

You will find that recovery from THR is a real roller coaster ride both physically and emotionally.   One minute you feel OK, then suddenly for no reason you 'go backwards' and feel terrible.   Take it easy, you will get better, but it takes a long time.  I didn't really feel recovered until about eighteen months after my operation.  Some of this was due to needing revision 10 weeks after the THR.

See my website for advice and tips from hippies onthis forum, the address is in my personal info here ...

So sorry about the depression,  I thought I would never feel better.  One of the therapist told me to go find some sun and get in it as often as possible!  You know what it has worked.  I am now at 9 weeks and am feeling so much better. Course I ca move better also, probably what it is!  Try it!  God bless you, things will improve.

Hi Linda,   A roller coaster ride is exactly how I feel, I was told I would feel so much better by now, and feel the expectations from my family and friends !   And sometimes I do feel good and don't need a walker or a cane but in a day or two I might back in pain again, I had three months of therapy before surgery  and have been in  therapy since the day after surgery, now the pain has gotten so terrible again and my therapist thinks  my S I joint is the problem from lifting a bag of garbage out of the garbage can!!!  I'm a very young active 70 year old with little  patience!!  So I get depressed and cry almost daily!!!   I think just finding this website  and hearing that it's OK to be where I am has helped tremendously , Thanks so much

dear rayma,

warm welcome to the hippies forum where personal experiences and stories are shared -

As you can see from the responses, feeling depressed is not abnormal -

We are not really informed about the possibility of the emotional disruption and trauma, the roller coaster ride -

Post-surgical depression (yes there is an official name for this) can be from:

the after effects of anesthesia

medications

post-surgical traumatic stress syndrome ( the anticipation leading up to the surgery - the major surgery it self)

Plus being instructed to stay in bed and restricted to low impact activities, doesn't make things any better. Throw on top of that that you are all bruised up and sore. Well, no wonder you're feeling down.

If it gets really bad, call your doctor and discuss this with him/her ...

I know what you mean about the expectations "others" have - try to ignore it, okay..

Have you watched this surgery on YouTube? not for the weak of stomach, but there is also an animated version which is less gruesome - Have them watch it -

come here anytime you want ... just sharing with like minded folk is healing -

Be gentle with yourself

big warm hug

Oh Rayma it is ok. We all heal at different times and levels. Some of us heal fast and are enjoying life while others are still struggling. And that's ok. Just know you can always come here and vent, cry or just say u are feeling great!! It's a good forum to learn and meet people who are caring, sympathetic and understanding we are all have our stories. Have a great weekend. By the way were are you from? I'm from the USA deep in the heart ❤️ of Texas. 🤠🤠
