So this time twelve months ago I was up and about zoomin around the ward on me crutches after waking up at 6 and feeling like a baby elephant was sitting on my leg. At first I didnt think I'd ever be able to move my leg again, but after a little help from physio I made it into the chair for breakfast... seems like only yesterday. Now just about walking normal and almost able to run ...like a chimp according to my unsympathetic other half.lol.
Congrats!!! Jason you are like me on the Up and Up...I ran from the rain...first run in years...my hips bday is 16 May, this time last year I could hardly walk, now I am going for Dancing lessons...Ian.
Jason,
We know thewalk - chimp or penguin, and my zookeeper is not very complimentary or sympathetic either
It is so nice of people like yourself to come back and keep us all motivated with your stories of recovery, even if they were not exactly a 'miracle cure'.
Many thanks
Graham - 🚀💃
Ian,
Likewise, thanks for the uplifting comments.
I suppose it is a 'miracle operation', jut not the miracle we thought it would be - it's not quick, and it's not pain free, and there are many bumps on the road to recovery, but compared to that OA pain (the lightning bolt down my leg I used to call it), it is truly a wonderful operation.
To be honest, even now at 9 weeks, I can hardley contemplate going back to work in 3 weeks, let alone going for dancing lessons.
Many thanks
Graham - 🚀💃
Hippy birthday to you indeed. Wishing you and your shiny new hip many more. I love your images and the thought of running (chimp-like or not). Thank you for sharing this positive happy milestone.
A 3-weeker on a bit of a grey day who deeply appreciates hearing from someone starting to enjoy the benefits. Aren't we lucky for our partners and their (more than slightly skewed) and decidedly warped sense of humor?
Congrats...time flies!
Happy birthday Jason's hip.
Graham is right. It's great to hear from people further down the road and hearing about the positives. At just one week in I feel I'm doing pretty well, but my walk is far from what the physio demanded of me - straight leg and heel to toe. I can do that for a bit but when I've been sitting, lying or just feeling tired I'm afraid it's just a pathetic hobble.
Well done Jason, may your hip have many more birthdays

Hi all, lovely to get so many birthday wishes, lol, thanks everyone, yeah on th up n up, walking is now pretty good, no penguin... has taken months tho due to poor gait for years all muscles n joints learning new alignments. To those not far out of operation, be patient with yourselves, as Graham says the miracle takes time... but keep the faith, keep practicing heel and toe... not pointed out to me by my physio, and I know I was walking flat footed after using crutches for a few weeks... made a big difference to how well I walked when I started to roll foot properly. Ps try to keep a good sense of humour, I found the first couple months especially ,, almost as much of a mental pain as physical.

At three weeks I remember still being on an emotional rollercoaster, ... "did I do the right thing.... could I have left it longer... Will it ever get better... why do I just feel down today?" All go through your mind at some point then next day suddenly you manage to do something and feel like having a party, look after yourself be patient and rest ... and exercise...and rest......and smile...
Happy hipday Jason, that's a great milestone!
