Hoarse cough for 3 weeks now

It all started a few weeks ago asymptomatically the only symptom i had was this rumbling sort of sound or stretching sound in my chest when i breath occasionally. I always feel the need to cough (not coughing anything up) and when i do the first bit of the cough is fine then something tickles and it gets really hoarsy. I end up coughing for a while until it almost knocks me out. Its only started like this, should I see a doctor as its been 3 weeks?

Are you short of breath when breathing normally? Does your chest hurt when breathing normally? Do you have a temperature? Do you feel generally unwell?  If "yes" to any of these then you need to see a doctor.

Alternatively...

You may have a "post nasal drip" which is phlegm building up at the back of your nose and then it slowly drips down your throat. It can trigger quite startling coughing episodes as it touches the sensitive nerves in your throat which are there to prevent stuff going in to your lungs . This is usually treated with a nasal spray.

Not short of breath nope, and nope, and nope! But yes, I'm extremely exhausted but this can be due to literally anything so I discount that. And thats really interesting and may just explain what it is.. would that explain the rustling sound too?

Thanks for your reply!!
