Hole/Dimple at bottom of spine

I've had a small hole/dimple at the very bottom of my spine since I was born. I've asked my mum about it and she doesnt remember anything anyone said when I was born. Up until now I've had no issue with it except it looking a bit weird. Recently, however, it has become red and sore to touch and sometimes when I sit down. I am a 19 year old female with no other health issues (that I know of). Does anyone know what this is and whether it is anything concerning?

Thanks

Yes I think I may know but don't want to say....you need to see a doctor for proper diagnosis and care.  Good luck!  Don't let the situation get worse.....

Hi maisiemay22,

My son who is 16 months has this same exact thing, we noticed not long after he was born and obviously, naturally googled this and got worried. Now i can only tell you what we have been told but after having seen two separate GPs both were very much of the opinion that it's nothing to worry about as it's a 'closed' hole, and they said only be worried if fluid leaked from this hole or he showed mobility problems which thankfully he hasnt.

One of the doctors also mentioned it can be more common than people think to have this kind of dimple/hole, and it may one day close and fill itself in - I did look in to this and couldn't find evidence of this statement so maybe based on experience? and this was at least a year ago and it shows no signs of disappearing.

I would probably suggest seeing you doctor if you're concerned but if you've never had problems with it i wpuld imagine they would say something similiar we were told and that it's one of those things you were born with - like some people have birthmarks etc.

I'll be honest I think your answer is very unhelpful to this young woman, unless your willing to give facts or share your experience or knowledge then been needlessly vague comes across like you are purposely trying to scaremonger.
