Obviously depends how long post op and when you are travelling, fitness and health etc x
Mary,
Please tell us when you had your surgery, how far you plan to travel, how long of a trip you plan to take and by what type of transportation you will use so we can better help you. I wasn't able to travel by car for more than an hour until I was at least 6 wks post op.

Nothing arranged . Hope to go somewhere end of summer early autumn . As they say won't be fully fit for a year I wondered about airport carousel .am only 6 weeks post op this week . May go on a cruise as I know the ropes . Thanks
Should think by then you will be OK
xx
Hi Mary, I had my op in August and did do a short haul in January on my own and managed the luggage ok. Was just careful how I lifted it. In two weeks we are flying long haul to Florida- this time I'm taking my husband who is in a wheelchair permanently and I also will have to sort our luggage. We do have special assistance at the airport which helps
Thanks and good luck and enjoy
I travelled short haul from France to the Uk, at 9 weeks I also hired a car at the airport and travelled two hours to where I was staying, did 700 miles in two weeks visiting friends and family stayed in a few hotels and flew back two weeks later, I was fine, no problems
Oh forgot to say I am 64 do no spring chicken....lol
HI Mary
You should be OK by then......You'll get assistance at the airport if you ask for it in advance. As for the carousel.....just bat your eyelashes at some man and ask him could he help you get your case.......can you take a stick with you {folding one} it might get the sympathy vote
I have never been on a cruise but I believe they are the best possible holidays for people with any mobility problems but thats only heresay
love

Thanks Lynn I am 60 .
I have done about 27 and am well and truly hooked . Still cruising after my divorce . Great if you are on your own . Thanks
Should be okay. Don't be afraid to tell people post hip replacement and take advantage of help. I didn't want any help to prove to myself I was okay but wish I would have asked for help. take care
Thanks . I am very independent myself but will have to get used to asking for help
I took bus tour trip just under 4000 miles at five months post op.I had anterior approach. That trip was a night mare.the toilets were too low the every day activity way too much.walked as much as seven miles over the 15hr day. Too many steps to climb.Like st the Jefferson memorial had 66 steps on marble st night while it was raining. Fortunately I dint fall. There were no hand railes to hold on too.none on the bathrooms even at the hotels. For me too much too soon.14 days too long.
Hi I travelled alone after 12 weeks. DO NOT LIFT suitcase, without realising you can turn and twist. Also do not carry anything on the shoulder - like laptop- on the op side. This can be difficult if still using crutch as support. But that weight on op side throws you "off balance" slightly and stresses the muscles etc. SO.... ask for assistance at airport and play the Helpless Female card! I didn't and regretted afterwards! Also take crutch as you can board plane early and avoid "the crush". Never ceases to amaze me even with allocated seats, all standing to get on board as if it would take off without you!
Thanks when I do go it will be for a few days and I can travel light when I have to .
