Home at last

hi all, well I'm home with 2 new hips, when the surgeon got into y hips he found that the right socket had a hole in it where the bone had worn through, the left hip had fused together, so right hip has extensive metal work to mend the hole, so can't weight bear on my right leg, while under he look at my left knee, he said it's not good, so......he's going to replace it in 4 to 6 weeks. Otherwise feel fine doing my exercises.  So I will have 2 new hips and 2 new knees. X

Don't go near too many magnets then...lol!!! Glad it went well...good luck for the rest!

Lol I won't goodness. Knows what will happen at an airport.

thanks x

Gosh can't imagine having two hips done at the same time!  I already have two new  knees and had one hip done three weeks ago.  The other one will be done sometime later this year I think.  All four corners done then

wow that's a lot of surgery - I hope you recover well!

Which brings up the question is it better to have ones THR as early as poss or when so  much erosion damage has been sustained.....  In a way, getting both done together has some advantages in alignment, healing etc. but I think you are VERY courageous. As for knees, the physio said it worse than childbirth pain wise; far worse than hip. So well done for your positive attitude.  Hope you do well..

I wish you a speedy recovery, take care!

Big hugs

Ella

Wasn't has bad as I thought, I think you have to have a positive attitude, makes it easier some how. Had mine done early as possible I'm only 53,

thanks

Thank you.

Thank you Ella

Hi Kaye , glad you are ok , not many of us doubles around ,but knees too ,you'll be bionic woman . Take it easy though it's easy to over do it when you feel good . Rest plenty and as you say ,possitive thinking . I had my two hips done10 weeks ago now and managed a night in the tent with the kids before the weather turned . Only thing I get is back ache , do you ? Have pretty much ditched the cruches a couple of weeks ago . You are young so and I'll bet like me  there are loads of things you want to do so all the best with the rest of your recovery , big hugs , Ruth

Wow, well done you.  Good luck with everything xxx

Hiya Kaye I'm so glad to see you back on here, I was wondering how you got on. I am doing fine I walked 30 feet yesterday ansd it's so good to be free of that horrible pain and know that these niggles will disappear. Keep up the excerises, as I am doig. So good to see you back

Hi, having had both knees replaced I can agre with your physio that the pain is far far worse than hip replacement!  Have now had my right hip done three weeks ago and compared to the knees it was a doddle.  Re your question about when to get it done - I delayed my right hip far too long which meant I had to have a bone graft.  The surgeon told me the other one needs doing before it gets as bad even though I don't have any pain in that one the femoral had has made "marked protusio into the acetabular"  Leaving it until it gets really bad just makes the operation more complex. I am expecting to be referred for the second hip when I go back for my check up on 25th June.  The inconvenience is more of a worry that the operation. All the best for you whatever you decide.

that's good in a way regimen you're on?  - no pain on unoperated side.  BUT, do you think it's due to any painkiller you're on?  As for when to operate, this is a conundrum which I think I'll research a bit more.  Intuition would tell us that the more healthy the bones, the less complicated the surgery.  I read other posts where grafts are necessary because of level of erosion and cringe...I don't think the surgeons are consistent with this; some saying wait til you can't walk and others saying better to have it done before it penetrates the pelvic ring.... Odear.  existential angst!

Hi, I can't unerstand why I have no pain as I am not on any painkillers apart from two co-codomol at night which I only take as I think they help me to sleep.  I was told I should have had the RTHR done two years ago and because I left it that is why it got so bad and needed a bone graft.  However even though I had difficulty walking and limped badly I didn't really suffer the sort of pain that has been described by others on this forum.  I suppose I must consider myself very lucky but the x-ray is clearly showing a LTHR is needed.   When I had my knees done I was told that it was much better to have them done  before the level of erosion becomes too severe.  x

Hi Kaye glad to see you back and on the mend how are you managing to walk much if non weight bearing on one leg is it not painful on the other one? Keep well
