i am only 39,been depressed for eight months.also anxiety getting worse.just wont to know does this happen in that phase of life.
You can get depressed at any time in your life but there has to have been a trigger. Sometimes anxiety and depression go hand in hand. It can be the loss of a job, the end of a relationship, or even a bereavement. You don't mention any medication you are on so perhaps a visit to the doctor will help. See if he will prescribe Lithium for you. It suits a lot of people and may suit you. It's definitely worth a try.
hi melissa sorry to hear how long you have been suffering from depression you dont.say.if you are attending.your doctor about your depression if your not please do so its important.to ask for the right help as soon as you can ! hormones can affect depression but again you need to go to your doctor for tests to confirm or rule out hormonal cause i wish you good luck david
Hi Melissa,
It could be hormones, have you had your levels checked by your GP, it might be worth it, then you can at least rule it out if its not that.
It might just be depression of course, its pretty amazing if you have put up with it for eight months without going on a tablet, I have been feeling very low for 4 weeks and I am sick of it already. I have tried St Johns Wort in the past it did help a bit, you could try that? Or get your GP to refer you for CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) I have heard good things about it, but I think the first thing you should do it get your hormone levels checked, if your mum had an early menopause it might be hormonal. Although you are quite young for that,
Best of luck. :-)

Hi,
Ok, well as everyone else is saying, you could ask your GP to check your hormone levels, its worth a look.
Good luck with the future :-)
My depression started when I was in my 40s. Can start at any age.
