Housework

I don't know how anyone else feels about household tasks at the moment ...but I've just hidden a pile of ironing in my spare bedroom.

i find myself just ironing what I need for next day

ironing??  What's that?  haha... I do EVERYTHING sitting down... its amazing how you adapt.. I do try to achieve something every day  otherwise feel a bit down....

I think ironing is a swear word...lol

but..... Whoever invented chairs ...gets my vote ...lol

i agree with you I do loads of things while sitting down

Hi Jean

i have been ironing as i need for ages. Can't see the point anymore as i would re iron them anyway . Don't feel guilty ..LOL

Hi Jean,

Don't know about you, but I have to pace myself as far as any housework is concerned.  Used to zip through it without a problem but everything takes three times as long now. So frustrating.

My motto is ...if people don't like what they see ..I will direct them to where the vaccum cleaner lives ...and the ironing boards habitat

i just can't be bothered anymore.......getting my knee right has taken priority

keep smiling everyone

I'm 5 weeks out. Even though I feel like I'm doing well household tasks seem to be a chore.  I do as much as I can sitting down and the rest I just do a little bit a day.  I'm more interested in getting myself back to what I was.  Housework can wait.

You are so right ...housework is the least of our worries

take care and keep smiling

Don't overdo it for the sake of housework. At five weeks out I used to iron as needed, and that was quite rare. As the weeks go by, you'll find yourself doing more and more, depends how you feel really.

lol your all right ,if they dont like it , then they are welcome to do it for me  , i dont have much on the ironing side but do it as it comes ,so it doesnt take more than 5 mins , i just have dust ,two cats ,indoor rabbits and two mice and a husband that is plastering most days , to top it a family who doesnt notice the dust ,so who cares if it goes up the vacume all well and if it doesnt tough , i will get round to it . its the least worrie ,next week when im back at work ill leave a note on the door saying all welcome to clean smile

I like your style

Just put a box of dark glasses in the doorway and a request for everyone entering to wear them

then they won't notice the dust

or ...a notice on the door saying ...entry only to people bringing a duster

then you'll find out who your friends are .....lol....

way to go , if people visit me they have to take me as i am or dont bother , and i dont seem to be short of visitors lol .

We have to laugh about things

laughter is a good tonic biggrin

Housework has always been a real chore to me! I find I intend to do some ironing (sitting down) but somehow the day has gone by and I've forgotten to do it! I'm lucky my husband still does most of the cleaning and I don't care if he misses some corners! My whole lifestyle seems to have changed and my day revolves around exercises! Housework is the least of our worries but, even so, would still like to get back to normal.

Forget the housework until your knee is better. Ironing, forget that completely! What do you guys iron anyway?

My problem was feeding my cats, I couldn't bend down, ended up throwing it at them haha

Carol.   Perth Australia, 5 weeks post TKR

I can empathise with you Caz, when I was five weeks post TKR I slept most of the time. The anaesthetic and pain killers really zonked me for weeks and weeks. I just managed the bare necessities to get through the day.....and night.

Yes Jenny, I was falling asleep all the time, even while eating. I couldn't even wash properly, I would find myself having to sit down in the shower, so tired.

I'm not so bad now, I did manage to go to the Stones concert, how anyone can yawn through Satisfaction? I managed it!

But you can't get through this without the painkillers, and it's silly to even try. Don't beat yourself up about anything, housework will still be there tomorrow, even if you do it today, so leave it, put yourself first.

I very rarely iron at any time since being retired never mind now. I've just moved house over the last few days, well it's an ongoing situation. and am sitting here with ice, elevation and back to pain killers. Feel as if I've gone back two weeks. Luckily my daughter and husband have told me off and made me sit here and not move. I couldn't if I tried.

Good for your daughter and her husband

moving house is traumatic enough without having your knee to contend with

just sit back and enjoy the care....

I think you're so brave moving at a time like this

and I agree with you about not bothering too much with housework now you've retired

there's more to life.

and once our Knees have settled down there will be no stopping us.

take care

Jean

We were supposed to move 6 weeks ago but instead I was having tkr. The op came along quicker than I thought. The problem is that around the house I felt ok. Very rarely used pain killers and even the ice had stopped. This last few days has reminded me that it's still very early days and I have to slow down a bit. I remember that the literature I was given said that there would be a return to pain around 6 weeks mainly because of doing more. They were right!
