How about trying this!?!

I have just come out of a specialist (and I emphasise 'SPECIALIST&#39 Rheumatology Clinic after 10 days.

The treatment was this:

Gymnastics ever other day (30-40 yr olds in same group as 70-80 yr olds!!!).

Aqua treatment - very go go go!

Gymnastic equipment - all sorts of machines, every other day.

Heat treatment.

Physiotherapy.

Ice Chambers (1st one -60 degs.  2nd -120 degs) these every day.  You have had to try this to even get an inkling of what it is like!!!!

Walking.

Sorry. Hadn't finished.

Usually we had 4 or 5 of the above every day.

When I was discharged the Professor was pleased to tell me I now long have  PMR as my bloods were "normal" (remember this is a 'specialist clinic&#39!

I have now been at home for four days and can hardly move.

As I asked "anyone fancy this"?

Dratted predictive texts.   'no longer have'.

I know that the ice chambers are very good for rheumatic diseases - but I'd have thought they were hardly suitable for a vasculitis. I did think I'd like to investigate what it did! (Yes, I do know what is involved!).

No - possibly a moderately good thing for rheumatoid arthritis but definitely NOT anything I'd recommend for PMR. And the gentleman should be referred to his standard rheumaotlogy textbook...

PS - forgot to say: Gute Besserung! Hope it doesn't last long...

Constance, I was so concerned for you when you first mentioned this, so you will probably know that I am not surprised at the outcome.  I really don't know how you got through it.  It all flies in the face of what is generally recommended for a PMR patient.  Now, what to do?  No doubt you have aggravated the PMR inflammation in your muscles - you may need to increase the steroid dose to sort things out.  I think if it were me I would try and find a good physio - someone who understands PMR and who knows that the usual manual techniques of physio are contra- indicated in PMR.  As well as the obvious rest, you need some gentle massage and heat treatment to soothe your body, but nothing more.  Ouch!  I really do feel for you.

As you will have noticed the ice chambers have been 'improved' since I was last in the clinic!!!😀😀

Oh yes - and whose idea was it to go to the Kur? Whoever it was should be told to come and see you and the state you are in!

Sound like a German torture camp!

sounds more like a torture chamber to me......I'm in pain just

thinking about what you were doing.....You just have to be so

careful about what you sign on for.    Hope you are searching

for new rheumy

Wow im really sitting here shaking my head its so depressing to hear that there are these unimformed rheumatoligist around the world. I know that there are worse things to have but this disease is life changing for all seems they just dont get it. Im layining in bed saturday morning in vast amounts of pain from head to toe. Its my own fault did a very strenuous job on the farm thursday night and this is what happens. Gymnastics ice treatments thats just crazy. My friends are mobility exercises in a 80 degree pool and my bed warmer and right now im off for a hot shower

Joanne

Yes, indeed!!

Constance, this sounds "schrecklich".  This is overdoing things to an utmost degree!  Some strange German specialist clinic!

Hope, you will recover soon from this ordeal.

Erika

Dear Constance, are you sure you went to the right clinic? It sounds as if they had you training for the Olympics in Rio. Hope you feel better very soon. Regards, tina

All I can say is OMG! Did you have to pay for this?

No, all inclusive.😀😀. Even the torture!  I am 'paying' for it now though, as you can imagine.

Prisoners get better treatment. When I first read it I thought it was a joke. No wonder you are feeling awful. I hope you feel some easing soon.

I was halfway through reading this post and had to stop and make sure you were posting in the PMR forum because everything was flying in the face of our standard recommendations.  I hope you recover from this really quickly.  And perhaps you will be stronger for it when all is said and done.  💕

I only had a little physiotherapy and I could not move for pain and stiffness. I'm glad to hear that your PMR free now 😃  Im on a bad flare though .

Omg. The only thing I like reading this thread is that it was all inclusive...

I hope you were served champagne and chocolates on a silver platter...

I did very gentle hydrotherapy and it landed me in bed in agony each time. I stopped after 2 sessions.

I hope you recover quickly xx
