How accurate are at home blood tests? HELP PLEASE :(

I had what the GP thought was herpes outbreak in March this year, she took a swab but it was unable to be processed as she used the wrong kind of swab.
Iv asked the GP for a blood test to try and get an answer but they said they couldn’t do it.
Are at home blood tests accurate? Iv found a website where I can send a sample of blood away and they will test for HSV 1 and 2. Will I be wasting my money?!

Did they tell you why they could not do a blood test? If you are in the US go to an Urgent Care and they can test you for it.

No, they said I’d have to go to a GUM clinic, (In the UK) which I’ve had horrible experiences at. I was hoping to just get a simple blood test to give me more of a diagnosis.
I have anxiety every day about it and am now dating someone new. Id rather know more myself before I have to tell him.
Iv tried the cartridge home test 3 times and it always says negative, just not sure if its accurate!

Well maybe give the clinic another try. I do not have experience with the home tests. Best of luck to you and I hope you get everything figured out.

Hate everything about it, but it might be my only option. Thank you though.

In my experience they are accurate. I took a HIV one and it came back negative- I had to relieve some of my anxieties before I could go to the doctors, which the blood test also came back negative. I recently bought a herpes one because my Dr didn’t think it was necessary to get tested since I didn’t have any symptoms and didn’t suspect I had herpes. It does take awhile to get your results. I used everlywell and it took about 1-2 weeks. I ordered from MyLab this time.

i did a test online and it was correct. got it from let get checked! lloyds do them too!

thank you for replying!
iv taken a few of the flat cartridge ones, that are 15 minute wait, where you drop blood in the little hole and add the solution and they are all negative for igm and igg.

I have seen one online where I drip blood into a little bottle and send it off, which I’m tempted to try.

thank you for the reply!
I need clarity and am thinking this is the best way!

I wouldn’t do that. See another GP and tell them you’ve been exposed to it by a sexual partner and they have a duty of care to test you for it. Keep in mind that the blood tests aren’t always correct and a false negative can be common. Better to have the area swabbed if it happens again.

I don’t want to wait, I might never have another outbreak, but could still pass it on.
I cant do that. I need some sort of answer and a blood test will give me that.

The one that I used is you drop blood on to a sample pad and they ship it off to a lab to get tested. I think it a great way esp all of this COVID stuff slowing doctors down.

Have you gotten your results?

hello, thank you for asking how it went. did a home test, with ‘lets get checked’ and its come back positive for hsv1.
the report detected a past infection.
Not sure where this leaves me! do I tell my next partner?! 80% of the population are positive for this anyway?!
