How Citalopram effects me.

Hi, I have been on Citalopram now for a couple of months, not sure exactly how long. The first thing I noticed was night sweats, waking up soaking wet and the such vivid dreams. I was waking up so hot, kicking the covers off then was freezing cold. Even with a sheet on and having the window open wide didn't help..this has settled down to a few times a week, not every night now. When I fell asleep my hands and feet twitch and my body jumps, waking myself and my husband up. This happens anything up to 10 times a night. I have no emotion, I can't cry. Even at the scariest and upsetting moments there's nothing. I still anxious, get stressed and frustrated but calm down quickly, where as before everyone ran and hid. I have had sinus problems since I started taking these tablets and I have some fantastic bruises, one on my leg is 6 inches long and 4 inches wide, that was from last weekend play fighting, but nothing I remember doing. When I drink alcohol I often pass out, remembering nothing from the night before. I was never like that before, although I am no longer an aggressive drunk which is good. I have asked to come off the pills, I don't like myself on them and know how I am isn't right. Apparently, it is safer for me to have no emotion at the moment..how does that work? I am considering cutting the dose down myself, take 10mg a day..then if I can't cope it's still in my system and I can up the dose again. I took myself off Prozac years a go as I was too dependant on it and I was fine. Anyone else have these side effects? I'd love to hear everyone else's story on this apparent new and little known about drug. X

Hi, I started taking Citalopram around 2 years ago, 10mg. I am only 20 so I hate being on them and have tried numerous times to come off. I remember when I first started taking them i experienced exactly what you did. Previous to taking them I was in bed for six weeks with anxiety and panic attacks and for the first week of taking them I was in ■■■■! I couldn't lift my head I was so dizzy I was sick all the time hot and fainting. I think this is just your body getting used to the tablets. I find the symptoms are the same when I try to come off of the tablets, I have tried three times now and each time has been a complete failure I end up feeling so bad I have no choice but to take them again. I think after reading a lot of people's stories it is really hard to come off of this drug. So as long as it is doing you good you should stay on them! Also I am very ill if i mix alcohol and tablets and if you read leaflet it says you shouldn't drink alcohol with them. I think these tablets are ■■■■ and would advise anyone to try anything else before taking them! I wish u all the best xxx

Thank you for your reply. I stupidly forgot to take my tablet yesterday, feel very odd today, can't face seeing anyone and all my problems and heartache seems a million times worse. :-( Thinking maybe I will keep taking them if this is how I'm going to feel coming off them. I wouldn't advise anyone to take these tablets. For me, they are awful. X

The dreams- I agree, but always did dream vividly.

night sweats, yes. But I am in my 60's so maybe to be expected! Also get hot at night, but ditto!

agree about feeling calmer.

I have noticed sudden heavy nose bleeds which would tally with yr bruises.

I am on 10 mg and have been for 2 yrs. More than satisfied.
