Matt - this was my experience as well.  I developed some breathing complications from the flu and thereafter had anxiety, difficulty sleeping and my appetite was severely reduced.  I lost about 45 pounds in 1.5 months.  I was put on Mirtazapine, 7.5 mg, which is a low dose.  For the first week I felt like my sleep improved a little, not great.  Then my sleep reverted back to me waking up consistently at 3:30 - 4:00 am and being unable to fall back asleep.

My appetite certainly improved, which was beneficial as I was really losing a lot of weight.  The drug made me feel horrible, particularly in the morning.  Like you, I had great difficulty getting out of bed and starting my day.  I felt my anxiety had worsened on the drug.  I was very unproductive, all I wanted to do was sit in my recliner and surf the internet.  I was on short term disability during this time and when I was taking the drug, I had my doubts about being able to return to work anytime soon .  I just couldn't function on Mirtazapine.  It is a nasty, nasty drug.  And when you come off it, you will experience a whole range of withdrawal symptoms.  If you decide to discontinue the drug, you should NOT do it cold turkey.  You need to taper down. There are many posts on this board about tapering and the withdrawal symptoms people experience.  I don't know the reasons you are taking the drug, but you should ask your pdoc about getting on something else and start tapering off Mirtazapine.  Like I said, Mirtazapine is a really nasty drug,  It's not your garden variety anti-depressant.
