How Do I Get Professional Advice For My Headaches

Hi!

​How do I get some professional advice for my headaches?

​I wouldn't mind finding a specialist online site with a headache specialist I can e-mail or do a live online chat with.

​My doctor said it was a neurologist I need to see I think but is reluctant to send me to one for some reason. Obviously maybe cause he doesn't see any seriousness to them as such, which is probably right, but they're doing my head in excuse the pun.

I can't understand a dr that says you need to see a specialist but won't refer ! My GP is the same.

the downside of an online consultation is that the dr wouldn't be able to take your blood pressure, check blood vessels in your eyes, check reactions and so on.

if you are in the UK you can make an appointment at a private hospital. I don't know if you need a GP referral to see a specialist but look up BUPA or Spire hospitals in your area and phone them.

i had a scan done privately the say after I phoned when there was a 10 week NHS wait.

I'm not sure I need a brain scan. I know it would / could put my mind at ease but would just like to have some professional light shed on my headache type. I'm guessing tension headache or migraine but don't know.

​Would Bupa or Spire do anything else apart from a scan and wouldn't that cost me a fair bit not being NHS?

If, by 'scan' it's a MRI that is being done, yes, it'll cost several hundred pounds, maybe over a thousand. If you go for anything privately, see a consultant (around £200 for an hour's consultation), who will take a full history, talk to you, at length about your symptoms/experiences and do a general neurological examination. If the neurologist thinks you need any kind of scans done, they can refer you back to the NHS for the scan/s. It's the route I took for a diagnosis (of something unrelated to my headaches), and it REALLY speeded the process up. However, even seeing a consultant privately requires a referral by your GP. I hope you get some help soon.

They're moderating my last post, it has an email address in it for the company pharmacy 2 u (without any gaps), they have online Dr's, don't know if they're any good?!
