My poor little girl has 2 problems, her urine leaks and her bladder is not emptying fully when she goes to the toilet. She goes to school fresh and clean everyday and comes home damp and smelling very bad! Being 6 she is very embarrassed to tell her teacher that she needs to change.all the hospital does is give her drugs that don't work and tells her to double urinate. This is just not working! She is constantly wet! I am at the end of my tether and I don't know what to do for her! Please help! X
Does she have any pain in her lower back/legs? Just wondering if there might be a trapped nerve cusing problems s it does in my case.
Sorry should sy causing nit cusing! lol Also what meds did they put her on??
Thanks for your comments, it's general leakage throughout the day. Meds have been oxibutyn and tolterodine (excuse the spelling)
So sorry to read about your daughters problem, sometimes you hit brick walls trying to find answers to
bladder issues and sometimes you never do find answers.
This is not a cure however it may help your daughter cope, why not consider letting her wear pull ups she can wear normal knickers over the top so no one will notice. I suffered as a child and it was a night mare, I wish I had had this option. I grew up scared to travel just in case.I needed the toilet, I became isolated and it was awful. It's worth a consideration, sorry I can't be of any other help.
Often smell signals infection . I had antibiotics rotated according to test results, on the spot 3 weekly .Original test results, when had patient orientated research in 1969,found spina bifida occulta ,neurogenic bladder &
double ureters also abnormal EEG. .Oxybutin too I have found marvellous keeping leaking under control.
Worse when infection could also be trichomonas.or another Mine causing low back spacicity & pain . .
Have had a keyhole urethrotomy in 70s. Now breakthrough problems due to NHS regarding Occulta as Low Priority so ignores its existence if you can walk .
Many Doctors are not giving necessary correct antibiotics causing
\ pyuria .In my case the worry is sepsis as noone now monitoring fairly as microscopes in most hospitals not strong enough.IIf you contact me I maybe able to suggest someone.but unfortunately they are not taught about it & there is no patient orientated research any longer.
My daughter has leakage and 30% retained urine even after urinating! The smell is just literally leakage which has then dried over and over again over the course of the day. She does not tend to suffer infection which is a bonus seeing as she retains so much! The only help she has been given is exercises to do and Meds, neither of which have worked! She is so embarressed now and I just feel like I'm being fobbed off by the hospital now and she is only seen every 6 months! I just want to help her!
Hi I am 16 and I have the same sort of problem, I have accidents daily in and it of school. My bladder is an over active one so I can't control it. But after 16 years I have finally been offered a Botox operation that will paralyze it so that I have to use catheters to empty myself out. I'm just not sure if I should have it or not.
Try to get the most help possible for your daughter!!
I would be going to the teacher and talking to her in private, this could lead to a lot of psychological problems later in your daughter's life, and also give her cyctytis if left to sit in wet underwear.
Hi danevans1981. I've just found your post whilst searching google for help with exactly the same issue with my 6 year old. Has anything moved forward for you. Despite seeing many specialists, I'm at my wits end!
Hi emma10148
Yes she has now been diagnosed with an ectopic ureter, thus basically means one of her pipes from her kidney goes directly to her vagina rather than via her bladder which means she has a constant drip. She is waiting for a hospital appointment to discuss the options. Please google it, it solved all mysterys! Good luck. X
Thanks so much. At least you have a diagnosis. That's exactly what I think my daughter has. One constant believes that she has, one doesn't. They are insisting on medicating her for overactive bladder, which is making no difference. Did your daughter have to have a CT scan for a diagnosis? Or was it ultrasound only!? I'm so sorry for all of my questions! Would you mind letting me know the name of the diagnosing consultant? Thank you Emma x
Hi Emma
We tried all the medicines possible, nothing worked! It wasn't until she had a thorough physical examination that the actual 'drip' was seen and witnessed by me as well that she was referred for an MRI scan as normal scan will not show it up. Are you in the UK? As we are based in Kent england. X
Yes, we are in droitwich, worcestershire. X
Well as I said we are in Maidstone Kent, our consultant is Dr Pandya. X
Thanks so much. Have managed to get an appointment this Friday with a specialist in Manchester. Upon researching him he has co written a medical paper on why young children are being mis diagnosed, essentially because the wrong tests are being done! I feel hopeful. Thank you for your help and best of luck to your little girl. Hope the op is done soon x
Hi Emma, I have just come across this thread whilst searching the the Internet trying to find help for my 5 year old daughter who also suffers from leakage. I am desperate to help her as she keeps telling me she does not know she is doing it and is getting upset about it. I am under a Enuresis clinic who have been no help at all. Please can you tell me the specialist you are going to see in Manchester?
Hi Vicky, you post has made me cry, as I now how it feels. My daughter will be 7 next week and is constantly upset about it. We saw Mr Cervillione in Manchester ( the third consultant that we have seen) I chose him specifically because he had jointly written a research paper on why these problems go undiagnosed for so long, concluding that the right tests aren't being done at the outset. She's had countless ultrasounds which haven't shown anything but apparently will need an MRI if they want to see anything in great detail. He has suggested that we start again, discount what others have said and start at the beginning. He's asked her to drink lots in the day, with nothing after 6pm, to relax when on the toilet and cut out chocolate and fizzy drinks (so far, she's no different) and if we conclude there's no change in 6 weeks, he will take it further. Good luck - hope this helps xx
Hi Emma thank you for getting back so quickly - I feel like crying now too! My daughter has not had any ultrasounds yet and been told to increase drinks, and regular trips to toilet. My daughter has has been great at getting on board and been drinking loads but after 3 months this has made no difference. We are due back at the clinic next week so will see what they say but I am not optimistic. I will see how it goes and if no luck will get in touch with your consultant as we are near to Manchester. I wish you all the best with your daughter and hope this consultant will be able to help her (fingers crossed it will be third time lucky!)
I would suggest giving her cranberry juice to drink. I Know this to be useful with people suffering baldder infections, so give it a try. Otherwise she needs to avoid sugary drinks and drink plenty of water to wash any infection out of her system.
Good luck!
