How do we learn anxiety

After years of having anxiety and depression, I have only recently discovered that I suffered from anxiety. While everyone has it at various times in there life, its a perfectly natural way to respond to danger.

However over anxiety is a reaction that we have been taught, my mother was a very anxious person up untill my late teens, however is very relaxed now, more so than my dad (both 65) who gets anxious when out of his comfort zone.

Has my dad and me (44) had it drummed into us after years of witnessing my mum panic over something like a truck pass us on the motorway or someone shout in public. Have we learnt to trigger are anxiety when things are out of are control.

Put it this way, I would be anxious if I had to get a train from Manchester to London, but I would jump in the car and drive there without a care in the world. While this would be the opposite for others

We choose to get anxious in the situations were in, with practice we can choose not to let anxiety rule are lives

I would love to no how to do this

Last week I was having a massive anxiety attack which lasted about a 2 days before it subsided. Half way through day 2, I was just exhausted mentally, This attack came after having a couple of good weeks, thinking I was on the road to recovery, so I was deeply disappointed.

Anyway like I said half way through day 2, I just bleeted out " im not doing this no more" to my amazment the anxiety was for a few moments gone, and came back but for the rest of the day I  kept on saying it to myself, as well as focusing on other things to keep my mind on something

The following day I was anxious but a fraction of the previous 2 days and kept up the "I aint doing this mentallity" and each day has got less

I am on citalopram meds and maybe the anxiety attack had run its coarse,

However its because of this happening last week that has caused me to look at anxiety in a different way
