Anyone know that how do whitening toothpastes work? How effective they are at whitening teeth?
I can only speak for myself, but I have used Supersmile seen on TV and I ordered over the internet, cost is $25 cheaper than whitening strips and will even whiten partials you may have had put in. I can definitely vouch for this toothpaste.
Basically, the whiteners use bleaching chemicals to get down into the tooth enamel and set off a chemical reaction that breaks apart the staining compound.
Keep in mind that whitening toothpaste can't change the natural colour of your teeth or lighten a stain that goes deeper than a tooth's surface. Ruining your enamel will lessen your protection from stains.
Floss every day, brush twice a day and try to use natural toothpaste. Fluoride toothpaste won't cause any harm to your teeth, but it has been shown to interfere with the functions of the thyroid in some people. Staying away from habits such as drinking black tea, drinking very sweet drinks with bad sugars in them (high fructose corn syrup, etc), coffee, smoking cigarettes, cigars or that other stuff you may like to smoke can help your teeth stay whiter too.

whitening products use bleach and many a uv light to activate the bleach so be careful not to get it on your gums i know from experience its not plesant.
