How does the Menopause affect COPD/Asthma?

I have had COPD for 6 years, however i feel it has been affecting my breathing more. I have found a couple of medical articles which reiterate this, but my own doctor doesnt know anything. I am 80% plant based diet, i take specific supplements to suport both COPD and menopause and try to exercise when i can. And i drink lots of water. I have read that HRT can help. Does anyone know anything about this issue please?

Hi Sittinginriver - Hi there - I most certainly believe menopause affects Asthma.  I do not have COPD.  I was diagnosed with allergy induced asthma in 1995, after we suffered from an extensive wet/flooding winter & apparently it was discovered that I was very allergic to mold & mildew, and hence the diagnosis of asthma.  So it has been roughly over 25 years since that diagnosis & I stopped taking all asthma RX meds once City dried up & I have not been bothered since that time....until last year at this time. Coincidentally the same time, my hormones were checked & they were very low. We have actually been in a drought for 6 years so no wet weather to blame.  After having several scary episodes of shortness of breath, I went to the allergy dr & when I asked her if menopause was causing this she didn’t say “yes”, but did say she sees an increase in patients after the age of 40.  So what does that mean? I’d say yes, falling hormones affects our respitory system just like every other system in our bodies. There are many woman on this forum who have experienced the “shortness of breath” thing, it even lists it in the 66 symptoms of menopause, so why are drs so reluctant to see the correlation?  Do you also suffer from dry mouth & dry nasal passages?  What supplements do you take to help with your respitory? It will be interesting if others come forward about this connection - be well
