How easy is it to get a Fibromyalgia diagnosis?

Hi I am 41 and have been on long term sick for the last 12 months due to a breakdown.

during this time I started to get joint problems and was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee.

i had two referrals to orthopedic and now I am awaiting steroid injections.

the thing is I have pain everywhere and stiffness in many joints including lower back feet ankles and hips.

i also have overwhelming fatigue and  have had to stop Zumba as I can't walk very far either.

At my last appointment I felt fobbed off and  when Imentiobed the other areas of pain I was asked if any of my family had arthritis, I said my Mum has fibromyalgia and he said Oh well that is probably what you have!

i am going to my gp this week so was wondering if anyone can relate to any of my symptoms and if so do you have any tips forme to try and get to the bottom of what is wrong?

thank you

I also have numbness in my fingers arms and legs on waking up.

i feel like an old woman but nobody seems to understand

Hi I think I have fibromyalgia, havent been diagnosed yet but I can relate to the aches and pains everywhere and problem areas such as my back, also exercise tends to make things worse too..best to get seen too like me smile

they dont am afraid , i think if you print things of and take them to the gp ,that they think oh another one thinks shes got something bbecause she read it on the net.

and if you dont its hard to explain it . it took me years of thinking that i was going mad about 6yrs before i found i fitted the fibrro critera , and my gp agreed,

a previous gp put it down to deprsion and put me on anti depresants, and made me worse, oh women of a certain age ,type of attitude .

just keep plugging on thats all i can say. it a toughy nothing shows so to most people its all in are heads.but its not.

Ask to be referred to the royal hospital at bath not sure where you are but mention bath do actuall diagnosis on FYBROMYAGIA if bath is not an option there are others at least asking to be refered for a Cheka is a start good luck

Hi. I never thought of any type of disease or syndrome like fibro when I started to get ill. I thought I was have joint problems . Hips. Shoulders etc.. me and my doctor discussed this and he referred me to a bone specialist (rheumatologist) the doctor diagnosed me so quick it was a relief after three years of searching for answers. He told me that fibro is so easily mistaken for bone disorders as the pain feels so much like it. He said he cannot treat me as he is a bone doctor but gets so many people with fibro they are able to diagnose the problem. It's worth a shot to ask your doctor to refer you to a rheumatologist.
