How is it like after cast is removed?

Hi fellas,

It's my first post on this forum. So, on 7th August(more than a month ago) I was in an accident which hurt my arm and there was a minor crack in the wrist according to the doctor, he said I have to wear a cast for a month. After a month I was really sure my arm has healed because it didn't hurt and I could do all the stuff with my injured arm just fine.

So, after a month I went to another doctor to take my cast off just because my last doctor charges crazy every time I visit. Now this new doctor seemed really inexperienced (26-29 probably). While he was taking the cast off I started experiencing some mild pain. After the cast came off, I was experiencing some difficulty in moving my wrist. I mean I had a hard time in moving it and had some mild pain. The range of motion was really less. Now he's like "I told you, no fracture gets healed in a month. It always takes more than two months or three months". He was wrong right? It usually does. He asked me to hold a rod tightly with my injured arm. My hand was shaking while I held. And that's when he said that I need to get another cast for 15 days and now I'm in another cast.

I recently read on the Internet that after cast gets removed there is a lower range of movement and it gets healed after physical therapy. 

So my question to you guys is, was this normal? Do you think the new doctor made a wrong call?

It is quite usual for your arm to be stiff and weak after being in a cast and physio is needed to build up the muscles.  It will be 8 weeks by the time they remove cast again but they need to be sure that the crack has  really healed by doing an MRI or Xray are there cost implicions for you personnaly best t be sure or there will be long term problems

I suppose it all depends on how bad your fracture was to start with and how bad the pain was when cast came off, our pain levels are all different and if your new DR's perception of how bad it was hurting was exaggerated by your response (not saying it was) then he would possibly think it was still causing a problem.

Remember just because the bones healed it will still maybe be weak from lack of use and soft tissue damage, it needed to be built back up with exercises and hot wax dips

Ziggler, I've always been told for a break it should be given 6-8 weeks to heal, and you said it was in your wrist? Was it the big bones in your arm or some of the smaller adjoining bones that go to wrist and fingers ? I would think the new doctor was thinking about further complications for you and sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry. I hope everything goes well and keep us updated on your progress.
