how long after bipolar turbo do I have to use a new CATHETER each time I pee

I left hospital after one night with CATHETER TAPED to leg on Saturday morning. CATHETER was removed Monday and I could not go on my own.

I now have to use a disposable CATHETER 4 times a day.

Is this normal and for how long?

Why were in the hospital and why did you need the catheter strapped to your leg (it's called a Foley) in the first place? Did you have a prostate operation or procedure? Any other surgery requiring anesthesia? Did you ask your doctor's what is going on?

Apologies, For some reason the first line of your heading got cut off on my screen. So, yes, sometimes patients go home with disposable catheters and are told to self catheterize for a certain period of time after a TURP. This is an alternative to going home with the Foley strapped to your leg. Hopefully, you will soon be able to void by yourself and then will not need the catheters. How long depends on how soon and efficiently you can void on your own. Sometimes it could be just a couple of days but you really need to speak to your doctor who should have explained all this and should be monitoring things.

I WENT IN FOR BIPOLAR TURP BECAUSE I STILL HAD URGE TO GO AFTER A PEE. I HAVE HAD THIS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. AFTER 4 JOINT REPLACEMENTS IN 5 LAST YEARS I WOULD RETAIN UP TO 1600 ML AFTER SURGERIES. THIS HAS REALLY STRETCHED BLADDER MUSCLE.

DR ADVISED DIAMETER OF URETHRA WAS NOT NARROWED THAT IS WAS A SLIGHTLY ENLARGED PROSTRATE THAT WAS BLOCKING TUBE. HE SCRAPPED BACK SOME PROSTRATE TISSUE TO LET TUBE OPEN. I SEE DR WED BUT DID NOT KNOW OF EXTENDED CATHETER USE. JUST A LITTLE DEPRESSED THAT THIS MIGHT BE PERMANENT. YHX

I think it's normal to be sent home with either a Foley catheter or disposable catheters like which you got. Hopefully, when things heal you won't need them but your doc really should explain this to you and the details.

You're describing POUR (a.k.a. Post Operative Urinary Retention).  It can occur with a TJR (total join replacement) or with any other surgery, ranging from minor foot surgery, to gall bladder removal.  I don't know of it lasting longer than a few days, so it might be that the prostate issue(s) that caused the bladder issue(s).
