How long are most uk waiting lists

I have an appointment next Monday, my referral went astray so further behind than I should be!

not sure as yet what the outcome might be, but my doctor went straight for Gyne due to ongoing bladder problems and she seemed unsure as to what was actually hanging down!

however dh has an appointment Wednesday and should get the go ahead for his new hip, I feel his surgery is the most important, but if offered my, as I suspect surgery, earlier should I go for it and if so what is the earliest I can expect to be up and running?

Sorry if this is a bit of a wooly question but just trying to get some things worked out in my head!

Hello carol. The longest you should wait after seeing your consultant should be no longer than 18 weeks, however if it was the hospitals fault that it went astray then they should do your operation earlier. No matter what prolapse you have repaired recovery is roughly the same. It will be about 12 weeks before you feel more like your usual self. Having said that there is a new procedure some Urogynaecologists perform if it's your bladder that's prolapsed and recovery is 3-6 weeks.

I take it 'dh' is your husband?!

I live in Birmingham and had prolapse repair ten weeks after seeing the consultant.

You will not be able to drive for a few weeks, until you can do an emergency stop without pain.

You won't be able to lift for three months, so if your husband needs tucking out of the chair... you won't be able to help him.

I suggest you wait until hubby is up and running before you have your op as you are going to need help with driving, vacuuming, lifting etc

Hi carol,

I had a&p repair in Northamptonshire. I waited just over 4 months from seeing consultant to surgery but I think that was a bit longer than normal.

Some insurance companies won't cover you to drive until 6 weeks and you won't be able to perform an emergency stop until then anyway. As I said if it's a bladder (cystocele) prolapse there is new surgery that is extremely successful and you can drive after 2 weeks.

Thanks Matron

the delay was due to doctors surgery, so no complaints re hospital!

i am not sure if the waiting list will be the same for both surgeons and it is the same hospital.

i was hoping for a six week recovery time, but it think if there is any doubt it might be longer, I would be sure to wait for my husbands surgery and recovery to take place first!

so we could be in for a long wait as if all goes well the hip surgery is around  12 week recovery!

When you go to your appointment ask the surgeon how long his waiting list is, there's no reason why he won't know. I've never worked with a consultant who didn't have some idea. Your husband could do the same.

Thanks for that Carol, same name and birth year maybe lol

yes I will take a back seat and let my husband go first, at the minute he can't walk and I cant lift so we make a right pair, but together we muddle along.

I suspect the waiting list will be as long for both of us, so will be putting him first then it will be quite a while before I can take a back seat!

just hope we can fit a holiday in at some point! Got a short break in March but will be hoping to get again.

Will do matron, I am forthright with the questioning also will defiantly be asking if other nearby hospital has a shorter list for dh, further to travel but heard good results, I suppose it depends if the surgeon also operates there!

Oh I hope it is that then! I had what they commonly called a stitch back, something suspension in my twenties, so guessing there could be more going on.

himself is ok driving at the moment but we tend to share!

Make sure he's a Urogynaecologist as well carol

Think just a straightforward gynaecology appointment

He's probably a Urogynaecologist.

Hi Matron is it normal to have the White stitches to be coming out at 9 weeks x

Absolutely. White, blue, black they can take some time to dislodge and fall out.

Phew thank you 😳😘

Hi matron, as you knowing have ant repair booked for April.the op you mentioned that takes less to recover is that the sling

procedure? I don't have any leakage.. Wonder why my urogynacologist is stitching the wall rather than sling.would you know

Matron? Xx

It could be that your consultant isn't one of the gynaecologists who is performing the operation. I obviously can't say 100% in your consultants case  but extra training would be needed to do this surgery.

He is urogynacologist. The top one from Southampton general.
