Im planning on going on holiday in four weeks, are there any restrictions on flying. I am 14 weeks post op. Also do insurance companies charge more because of your condition.
Anybody help?

Even though I had a LTHR, my arms were to tired to flap and keep me airborne 😂
Your Doctor or Surgeon would be best at answering that. In my case I believe they told me 6 weeks. Actually flew at 8 weeks with no problem
Hi Margaret,
By 14 weeks there should be no problem if everything has gone well for you. Check with you doctor if you are concerned.
Hope you have a wonderful holiday!
dear margaret,
how fun and good for you ...
I don't think there are any restrictions but I would call ortho-office or GP -
how long is the flight? compression stockings are advisable -
just make sure you sit comfortably and if long haul, walk around frequently ..
Some travel insurances charge more if you have a pre-existing condition - and even then they are often reluctant to pay out (been in hospitality for 4 decades) -
what you also might want to do is request assistance at the airport ... it will feel akward and maybe emberassing but once you by-pass the long lines etc. just enjoy the ride .... ( I did this pre-op due to terrile OA pain in hip)
well done, girl !!!
big warm hug
renee
Hi Renee,
Thanks for your reply and encouragement, the flight is only about 2.5 hours. Maybe a wheelchair is a good idea, my daughter did mention it.
it will be good to get some sunshine, I will have to watch the all inclusive deal though, I need to walk straight. 😎🌞✈️🌅
Thank you Kimberley, I will check, I don't think there will be a problem but better to be safe.
Kind regards
Margaret.
My insurance company did not charge any more for me, but would have if I had dislocated after THR at all. So beware, take precautions or it may cost you dearly
Hi Margaret
I am having hip done in 2 weeks. I got a very useful book at preop. I had a look and it says no flying for 3 months. Though every hospital and authority says different. Though at 14 weeks according to mine you are good to go. Enjoy!
I flew at 8 weeks post op. It was short haul. I think they don't like you to fly long haul for 6 months or so. I had no problems at all.
