I have been on Mirtazapine for seven weeks now and it has helped my mood enormously and I no longer feel completely depressed and suicidal.
I am worried about what will happen when I come off this medication. My GP has talked about staying on it for six months after I start to feel better but I would like to stay on it longer.
Hello, I was on Mirtazapine for more than 8 years, and am on my 6th week of getting off of it. The withdrawal has been hell. My mother has been on it longer than that, and is still on it and doing well with it. My advice to anyone would be to look for counselling or some other method of dealing with emotional problems if at all possible. When your body becomes dependant on a chemical (medicine), and you start to have bad side effects, or the medicine just stops working due to your body adjusting to it being there, then you have your original problem plus withdrawal effects from trying to get off the drug. And Mirtazapine, based on all the research that I have done on-line, is one of the worse with regard to withdrawal. This is all of course just my opinion, but it is based on personal experience. As I stated earlier, I am starting week 6, and still having withdrawal symptoms, mostly gastrointestinal, weakness, fatigue, and anxiety. It seems to be getting slowly better, but I thought that I would answer your question as completely as possible. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I am glad that you are feeling better.
How wonderful to read good news.Read up on the Internet for the 2nd question See
I have been on it for 3 years and have no intentions of coming off. I hope that the GP lets me stay on it because it not only handles my depression, but had bannished my terrible migraines, IBS and itchy allergies. The only downside has been weight gain, but I have nearly shifted that too.
Thanks so much for your reply.
Have you been tapered off it? I have spoken to my GP about it and she thinks there will be little problem with withdrawal if I am tapered.
how did you manage to lose weight,I’m struggling with that side of things
