6 weeks ago I was due to have my second knee replacement but the day before the hospital rang to say the operation was cancelled as the anaesthetist was not happy with my ECG, and I would have to be referred to a Cardiologist, since then I have heard nothing....... I know I have an irregular heartbeat (which was present at the previous operation 12 months ago) but it does not seem to affect my everyday health, no palpitations or shortage of breath. but the pain in my knee is getting worse thus limiting my mobility. Does anyone have any idea how long you have to wait to see a cardiologist, I have been to see my GP who said he couldn't hear anything untoward.
To be honest they do not seem to think it is urgent or important otherwise you would have been seen by now.
Usually the wait is around 3 months on the NHS if it isn’t urgent. But it also depends on how efficient your area is. If you haven’t heard anything in 2 weeks ask to speak to the booking clerks in your hospital to ask if there is any information on you for an appointment (have your NHS number available to give to them), if not contact your GP and ask if they can find out what is happening.
It depends on what hospital you are going to and how busy they are. I have being waiting since October time rung them up last month and there is a 5/6 month wait unless it is urgent and then it is within 8 weeks I think they said.
I live in the States so I can’t help you on your question about how long it might take to be seen by specialist.
I did want to share the same thing happened to me during pre-op testing. I found out I had afib from the cardiologist & was put on a blood thinner & rate control drug. Afib puts you at higher risk for complications while under so they wanted to ensure I was on proper meds.

Thanks for your reply, my last conversation was with my surgeons secretary 4 weeks ago who said she would pass my details to a cardiologist in the area, I live in the north west and there are a number of hospitals in the area, so I wouldn’t know which to contact, I shall probably take your advice and contact my GP if I haven’t had any word in the next 2 weeks.

Although I agree with the waiting times of 3 months I experienced the same when I was due to have an operation on my rotator cuff. This was three years ago and I am still under the cardiologist and no operation in sight. Hope you get a better outcome.
Hi sheila78885,yuk,know how you feel,had a inferior infarction,2010,at work ,backed away from the pipe threading machine,started praying,felt the party was over,it was sinus tachycardia ,didnt know it at the time,just thought it was the angel of death,coming to take me,after my ememergency room stay,put me on lisinopryl,atenolol,statin,baby aspirin, but after I would eat ,about 30minutes later heart would start pounding all the way down to my feet,was terrified to eat ,took a year but these meds started to kick in,plus maybe the prozac, now dont worry about it, plus vivid dreams ,I dont mind,hate waking up some times,Haha, yuk, anyway took for ever to get a appointment cardiologist,to get a echocardiogram,found a pfo patent forman ovale, to small to close,risk reward situation, but now 2019 still kicking,but understand your frustration, va has a lot of soldiers, takes months to see a cardiologist, unless I’m dying,can go to emergency,yuk, hang in there, I’m going to give you a double bubble,super tridupper,cyberfantastic,healing wave ,of lifeforce energy,ok hear it comes ,you will feel the heat wave any second,Boom shaggala,bless you,ttfn
