How long does a rabies post-exposure prophylaxis last in humans?

Hi, all! I've been bitten by my 2 month old puppy after I was playing with it. The bite wasn't too deep, but it bled a little. I washed it with soap and water and put alcohol on it. I cleaned the wound area thoroughly with a cotton ball and alcohol.

I've had my series of rabies PEP last January and I was wondering if the vaccine is still in effect and if I won't have to get another shot. Must I get another series of shots?

Also, I have had the puppy for almost 13 days now and is showing no form of aggression though I wouldn't know for sure since I don't know if the mother was healthy (we adopted the puppy).

So, again, must I get another series of shots?

Hi,lanzbuyao

There is nothing to worry.

In Pups and Dogs the disease usually develop more faster. If the rabies virus was in that pup's saliva then it would have been dead by now.The recommended observation period is 10days post bite.Post Exposure Prophylaxis usually last 7-10years so there is nothing to worry. Please keep an eye on that pup.

For any kind/type of vaccine administered, it lasts for 7-10 years?  I read that I have to get a booster shot.  Is it like, needed?  What complications does it bring if I don't receive any?

No not for any kind.In previous reply i told about Rabies PEP.Rabies PEP program has 5injections.Total 4 Anti-rabies and 1 immuno globulin for faster production of anti-bodies since a large amount of antibodies needed to prevent rabies. As you got pep recently it is enough for at least a year.also i researched that people are immune to rabies even after 6-7years but it is recommended to get another pep after 1year of pep if you got bitten again.Rabies PEP is very toxic and can cause sometimes severe allergic reactions. If you concerned so much talk to a general practitioner.
