I still feel light headed dizzy after a week off. I took it for 4 months 500 to 600 mg per day. This drug is weird and should be look at more closley. What do you all think. will withdrawals go away eventually?
I have been off it since February, was on 3200 mgs a day built up to that in 14 months! Feeling much better these past few months except it messed my stomach up!!
I was taken off way to fast.. This had to be weaned off of very very slowly.

The medicine is out of your system in 6 days if you are an average person. Longer if you are very sensitive to medication. Even after it's out of your system, it can take weeks or months for your brain to recover. I have been off 6 months and still having discontinuation symptoms, including dizziness. I just met with my doctor recently who said this is very unusual since I was only on 100 mg for 6 months. It took me another 6 months to taper off it.
From what I understand it varies. I was on 1200mg day for 30 days
Weaned for one week
Dizzy spells for three weeks
Dr treated the dizziness as benign positional vertigo and gave me exercises to do that helped
Some side effects definitely linger and you're right this medication is very dangerous
It was hell detoxing from it

I feel spacey off and on, jumpy with sudden sounds, dizzy off and on, stomach problems... I can't let my stomach be completely empty or I feel ill, pressure in my head, tinnitus, sensitivity to a lot of foods. I spoke to a girl who said she felt normal after a year being off the medication because she was so sensitive. I'm far more sensitive to meds than her. I'm hoping it won't take longer than a year for me to feel normal. Some people are fine after a couple months. I hope that is YOU!

I am feeling a whole lot better after down-dosing from 900-1200 mg/day to now less than 100 mg/day ....over a period of 8 weeks. I have very little withdrawal reactions now. Only a slight dizziness from time to time and some nervousness that comes and goes....but overall now I am doing great after having been on 900 to 1200 mg/ per day for 4 years......Im almost recovered....still I will contine taking about 50 mg/day for another month just to be sure.....regards JB

You are right J. It depends on how long and what dose you have been taking. How long were you on Gaba ? When did you stope taking it, and how quickly you tapered off. And also......were you and are you still taking any other type of medications at present ? that could also be a factor in your persisting side effects? Of course could also just be the gaba taking a long time leaving you ?
I just got my answer by reading your thread here from 5 days ago. It is astounding how quickly this drug gets into your system and remains for a protacted period ! I was taking about the same dose as you.....but for 4 years ! I've been on my tapered down dose of 100 mg/day or less and it took me 8 weeks to get where I am now......BUT I am basically about normal now.....a little lingering dizziness from time to time and some jittery nerves...but all is else is great ! I'm happy now !

100 mg for 6 months ? Yes, that just shows you how powerful this drug actually is. That has been my suspicion for s long time. The so called low dose may not actually be Low ? Just think then how high the so called maintenance dose of over 1200 mg/day ? WOW ! something to think about.
Most doctors don't even know if it will cause damage, or even what a proper dose would be. There are going by the manuf. recommenations and of course the manuf. is not going to criticize the risks or effectiveness of the drug they are creating and marketing ! There are no conclusive studies at all on the long term effects. Who is going to fund and conduct those studies......not the mauf. for sure .
