i had blood test done to check for Coeliac Disease around 4 weeks ago, however my gp surgery does not have the results back yet. Got my endoscopy and biopsy taken a couple of weeks ago. Anxiously awaiting result and getting impatient. Thought it took about 3 weeks to get results, confused?..
Hi Marybeth, I don't think it should take longer than a week to get blood results back. But i am unsure on endoscopy and biopsy. I am in early stages of diagnosis for either IBS, Coeliacs or poss a wheat allergy. I have bloods due to be taken in 3 weeks and appointment with doctor in 4 weeks to discuss. But sooo annoying having to wait! I just want to get to the bottom of things. Can I ask what symptoms you have been having? I know everyone suffers differenlty and looking for others similar?
Hi cassie,
my main symptoms are unexplained iron deficiency anaemia, fatigue, constantly tired along with anxiety. Restless legs now and then too. I have had the bloods, scopes all done. I was told three weeks for blood results but it's way past that now with no feedback yet. I'm thinking that no news is good news and that it means nothing has been found. Still, it really is a long wait to find out, hope u get an answer and diagnosis xx
I see. Mine are more, bloating, constipation, headaches, bad eczema on my feet (soare with blisters when they flare up). Yes I would have thought no news is good news, surely if there was a problem they would be in contact straight away? Have you tried calling them? x
I'm in the U.S., but it took 2 weeks for my son's Coeliac panel and one week for mine - bloodwork. My endoscopy results (and had colonoscopy) were given in just a few days/same week! My son's took longer, but it was positive and they didn't want to tell us on the phone - plus the appointment was snowed out (last February) and we had to wait for rescheduled appointment. So, that was a few weeks, maybe up to a month, but shouldn't take that long normally.
I should think you'd have your results by now. Waiting is so hard! I wish you the best!
Hi
I'm in the UK and have recently had blood tests for coeliac. The results took around two weeks to come back.
Mine were negative but I question the results as I have a lot of the symptoms such as fatigue, numbness in my hands and arms, abnormal bowel movement, b12 deficiency, vitamin d deficiency and calcium deficiency
Yes phoned the practice a few times and they keep saying my results are not back yet (
Hi aveline
That was excellent that you and your son got your results so quickly. I don't quite understand why it's taking so long here. They only told me at the endoscopy that they had taken biopsies to check the intestines and for coeliac xx
My blood results took a couple of weeks then had 3 weeks to wait for my endoscopy and 2 weeks afterwards I got the results of that (positive). My surgery had them but at first the doctor hadn't seen them so that held things up. It's hard when you don't know one way or another but try and be patient. You'll know soon enough and can either start your GF diet or have further investigations done. Hope all goes well and you begin to feel better soon- keep us posted!
Hi Rhiannon
That was fairly quick to get your result. As your result was negative does that mean they won't give u a biopsy to check? I have read that the blood test can be pretty inaccurate sometimes. Your symptoms sound similar to mine. It's awful living with these things. If you are anything like me you will just want to get it sorted and back to normality. It's a strange existence being fatigued and constantly tired. Hope u get an answer too xx
Hiya, thank you for your reply. I'm trying hard to be patient but time seems to be dragging. I think I just got it into my head that because it was taking so long that I must be negative. It's just the process of eliminating trying to get to the root of my anaemia it's such a mystery. I feel sometimes that the gps are quite laid back about it but the fatigue and tiredness, even taking iron supplements is ruling my life x
I totally feel your pain! Felt exactly the same and thought my results must be negative so I got a shock when I found out how much damage had been done. I was so tired I could barely get out of bed and it was a horrible time, made worse by worrying about what might be wrong and waiting for results but I did get there in the end although just beginning to feel better. I do hope you find out soon x
I can relate so much to the tiredness. its reassuring to hear that u are feeling better! Is this now that u have eliminated gluten? It seems to work wonders in most cases. Thanks for your replies it makes u feel better knowing there are other people experiencing the same xx
Eliminated gluten 6 weeks ago, for me it's been a gradual improvement but I feel very different and am managing to live an almost normal life again without the 18 hour sleeping marathons! Hopefully things will continue to get better. Have had great support from the dietician and coeliac specialist nurse at the hospital too so can't fault the NHS in that regard. X
It depends some results can take a few weeks, though it should have came through by now. Have had tests taken for blood screens and had the result the next day through GP.
My biopsy result was given to me straight away, this was due to information that I was able to give, at the time of the biospy. Hopefully you recieve your result soon.
Hi, they have completely ruled out coeliac due to the blood result however all the symptoms I have point to coeliac! I feel like I'm going around in circles!
I'm constantly tiered and struggle to get out of bed, even after 9 hours sleep! It's horrible!have u been diagnosed? And are your symptoms similar to mine?
Many thanks for your help
I know the feeling. Sleep all the time. Fatigued all the time. Initial blood tests showed iron deficiency anaemia. Hemoglobin and ferritin levels were shocking. Been for endoscope and colonoscopy. Nothing found but biopsies of intestines taken. Coeliac blood test taken. My hair also breaks and is literally breaking off. On lots of iron supplements but docs are sure there is no bleed anywhere. So this is where I am at too. Feel like yourself, just going round in circles. Feel like a pretty useless person at the moment. Having spurts of energy with the iron tabs so making the most of them when it happens xx
That sounds great! Very positive. As u say it's a gradual improvement but it's going in the right direction.. Can I ask, are u on iron supplements? I get spurts of energy then it's major tiredness afterwards. I must say the NHS are really good overall and it's fab to hear they are being a good support. I almost feel jealous of people living a normal life at the moment. Sounds melodramatic but if I'm not coeliac then goodness knows what it is.. I look forward so much to feeling normality again xx
Wow that was really great. What peace of mind to get your results so soon. Thank you for your help, hopefully my results will be through very soon x
I'm taking Folic acid and having B12 injections which is helping. I totally understand how you feel, I have had to take time off work and it's almost as though a pause button has been pressed on my life for the past five months. I became really ill in January but didn't get my diagnosis until March after having a multitude of tests. Try and keep your chin up- if it's not coeliac then your doc will just need to find out what it is! X
