How long does lexapro take to work? I've been on it for a week and a couple of days & its not workin

I feel so hopeless i have major anxiety about my throat and always feel like i cant breath or am choking or theres too much air in my throat which is really hard to explain but i feel really alone bc no one has my exact symptoms in their throat which really freaks me out and all the docs and ents say that im fine and so all of that stuff causes me to have panic attacks. ive been on lexapro for a week and a half and i really do not feel any better im taking 5mg. when will it get better.. feel free to share your stories on how long it took for yall to notice a change. im only 17 and im tired of feeling like im crazy and alone in this!!!!!!!!!help

It should take at least 3 week for medicine to begin working. I have had the throat symptoms many times.once it felt like a chicken bone.

Try and tell yourself that the fact is, ypu are okay. Try and breath three breaths deeply and slowly. Also, distraction and meditation will help.

You will be okay just give the meds some time.

Try, if you can, to recognise this as anxiety and take big deep breaths, emphasising the 'out' breath, whilst sitting in a comfortable chair, in a quiet place, and with your shoulders completely relaxed.

I'm very sorry you're having this problem while you're still a teenager. You really do need to let your lexapro kick in properly - it often takes about a month before you notice a difference. Until you start to - you're not alone.   love Tess
