How long is it before you can drive

I am in my six weeks after a full hip replacement, how long was it before you can start to drive.?

It really depends on how you feel. I was driving after 5 weeks

But only very short distances and always with Some one with me

In the car , after 8 weeks I was driving further and on my own

Hi, it'll be 6 weeks for me on Thursday and my physio wouldn't approve me to drive before then for insurance...all depends on when you can emergency brake but I can't wait to start some short distances.

Yes that's true , the insurance is a point , and I'd drive very slowly

For a good few months after as I think an emergency stop at anytime

Prior to 6 months is Risky, I'm 10 weeks on now and drive slower than I did

Before surgery .

Hi Lesley,

i was advised 6-8 weeks depending on how you feel but remember to advise

your a Insurers. It won't alter your premium but by law you must let them know that you have had a full hip replacement.

Good luck and take it steady.

I was given the go ahead at my 6 wek review, drove round Asda car park after closing! Emergency stops is what you have to make sure of! 1 or 2 weeks of short trips and then away...!!!

Thank you , will the insurance people ,want any information from the doctors,?

Do you know where it says this...I haven't told my insurance!!

Found something that says you need to inform them if driving before 6 weeks .....but surely not once back to normal ....

No, you just need to call them. The hospital advised me to do so. My insurers just noted the operation on my policy. I drove at eight weeks

but only short distances until I felt more confident. The Insurers asked for the date of the operation.

Take care.
