Hiya I am on 40mg,and thankyou both I will have a pop into forum cheers Anne x

Hi Debbie. My first post here, only just joined. Anyway, I have been on Citalopram for about 9 months or so. It is the first AD I have taken so my GP put me on the lowest dose, 10mg for a month. It had no effect, so he doubled it for another month with the same result. I have now been on 40mg for 6-7 months. My GP said 40 was the max. I am unsure if it has had a great deal of effect on me TBH. I still feel very anxious over nothing. If I have to have a shower or a friend is coming over,. I just don't want to be bothered. As some of the others have said, it affects different people in different ways. Keep in touch with your GP, & try to monitor your moods, advice I need to heed myself.

Sorry for the double posing folks. Damn technology!!!!

OK, in response to Anne re; side effects of Citalopram. As I said in my previous post [twice!!] 40mg for about 6-7 months has given me no noticeable side effects.

Hi Debbie,

stay strong give it another couple of weeks and if not feeling better go back to your GP, ask to be referred for CBT which can really help too, practice deep breathing whenever you feel anxious, breathing deep into ur belly for e seconds and out for 8 seconds slowly, then build up till its in for 7 and out for 11, it really helps realx and calm you, do it whenever you remember it. Its a great tool for us.

Lee you should try the deep breathing also, Lee my friend is on 50mg but I think it depends on ur age as to what is safest, please let your doctor know how you feel and see if there is anything else they can give you that will work as all our bodies are different at processing medicine.

Take care and stay strong

Anne

Do check outs posts on Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram

Thankyou for the advice Lee,I thought I would

see more improvement at this dose,I still feel

Shaky inside and there is no sign of mood improving,

I am forcing myself to get exercise but boy takes a

lot of effort, just so unmotivated at the moment which is not

Like me at all.i wish you well on your journey

We will get there sooner rather than later hopefully x

Hi Debbie, I agree with Anne about cbt, I'm starting it soon and I've heard so many good things about it. I've heard that people can go up to 60mg but as Anne said, it depends on age. Don't give up Debbie, you can and will get better x

Thankyou all I will ask about cbt on my next appointment,

don't wish these feelings on anyone but is good to know

I'm not going crazy at all.I wish you all well x

I am a youngish 64, sometimes feel 94.

Anne, I will try the breathing exercise, thank you.

I have been referred to a pain management clinic. There will be group sessions & help from a physiotherapist, as well as discussion about the meds I am on, for my depression & the other ailments I have.

Debbie, motivation is so difficult. It takes me ages to work up to having a shower or make a cup of tea. Some don't want to talk about mental illness, thinking, if they ignore it, it might not be happening. I wish it was that easy! I feel I HAVE to talk about it, especially to others who have the same problem. Living on my own this kind of forum is so important to communicate with others, to help & be helped. Thanks for your support, & Debbie, we will get through it one day at a time. xx

Anne is right on the breathing exercises Lee they have helped me to stop a full blown anxiety attack occurring .and you are so right about talking to other people it helps immensely,I used to keep everything bottled up which isn't healthy hence me joining this forum so don't feel so alone.Thankyou for the support x

Hi Debs. It's 6am & pain unbearable, so have come downstairs for PK's & cup of tea!!.

I have a number of hobbies that help me keep my mind off my problems some of the time. I find that if I am in good fettle in the morning [which is rare] then it's easier to fight my way through the day. I don't now plan things in advance as I usually end up canceling, which makes me feel bad & can kick of a mood swing. My hobbies are things I do on my own mostly. Reading is a problem due to ridiculously short concentration span. I now read a lot of James Paterson novels as the chapters are only 3-4 pages long. Other interests are learning guitar [very, very slowly] & photography. I am also a member of a photography forum so can converse with others if I want to, & have made some really nice friends via the PM system from allover the world. I think talking about matters not related to our illness now & then, is a good thing. Take care & have a good mood day. xx

Hi Lee sorry to hear you having hard time with

Pain, hope you having a good mood day today

I try to keep busy but sometimes when this foggy

head and dizziness start it's hard to focus, don't

know if this is my anxiety or meds causing these

symptoms however I'm at my GP on Friday so will

see what he says.

Take care x

Hi everyone, just wanted to check something. Today I've been feeling quite good but I keep getting waves of a really low, sad feeling in my tummy. They pass but they aren't very nice. Does anyone else have anything like this? X

I have been on Citalopram 10mg for about 1 year and the result was marginal improvement in Anxiety and Depression.

A new dose of 30mg was prescribed and within 6 weeks the difference was amazing.

still get periods of depression but they dont last as long and not as deep

stay with citalopram its really good!

Hi Debbs. How did you get on at the doctors today?
