I had a total hip replacement 3 weeks ago, when is it advisable to drive my jaguar s type.
Doesn’t really matter what car you drive unless it’s a low slung sports car, but as you drive what is practically a large saloon, 6 weeks if you had posterior approach is what your consultant would advise, you wouldn’t be insured before that, if it’s an auto, probably a little sooner, but until the consultant tells you it’s OK, not before.
The information booklet I got from the hospital says 6 weeks post op, but it doesn’t mention specific cars.
I drove 2 weeks after surgery. A BMW x5 Automatic. Had left hip replaced so no clutch. Maybe with a Jag I Would have waited 6 weeks
i was 6 weeks post op last friday and waited till then to drive, and im glad i did. just be patient, it will be worth it
As a rule of thumb most surgeons say six weeks. I did tell my insurance company before I drove though.
I told my insurance company but they weren’t interested. They only want to know if the DVLA have indicated that you shouldn’t drive.
I don’t know what the DVLA’s take on driving after surgery is but I would assume it would be after 6 weeks or with permission from your surgeon.
My surgeon said it was OK at my 6 week post op phone consultation. I’m not sure how he managed to assess my suitability for driving over the phone mind you.
My insurance company just thanked me and did not seem that interested. It seems the important thing is that our surgeons have said it is OK it seems.
I actually saw my surgeon for my six week assessment three weeks ago and he gave me the go ahead. His mask was just below his nose and he shook hands! I did say are we allowed to do that and he said probably not!
