How long until vitamin d3 start to take affect?

I started with lower back and bum pain nearly 4½ years ago and over the last year or so the pain got worse..I get it everywhere ..my neck..my lower/upper back..shoulders..arms..hands..fingers..legs..knees..ankles and toes..you name it..that's where the pain is..I recently had blood tests done for kidney problems..thyroids..arthritis and a few other things..my results came back as vitamin d deficiency.. I've been taking fultium 20,000 iu everyday for nearly 3 months an there is no change..I'm still in pain..I'm still always tired..I have moodswings and feel lathargic at times..does anyone know how long it takes for vitamin d3 to take affect

I took high dose vitamin D for 6 weeks but the side effects were so awful that I had to give up rather than take it for 10 weeks. The doctor was ok with this and said it should have done the trick . Rhodri.

It normally takes three months at least for vitamin D to take affect. Have you had a recent blood test to see if it has improved? What was the original reading?

3 months of that dose should have had some effect. Low levels of vit D are commonly found in autoimmune disorders - and if that is what is causing your symptoms replenishing the vit D won't have a lot of effect.

I think seeing a different doctor might be a good move - and a rheumatology referral, not a GP looking for a needle in a haystack.

I had the same burning symptoms in my back and progresive pain everywhere. I was b12 deficient. I got inyections and now take b12 everyday. I still have stiffness and some gastric problems and pain. Not like before. However, muscle weakness did not get much better.

ive been taking mine since the 20th november but not felt any change at all..if anything i feel more tired and still in the same amount of pain..do you think i should go back to the doctors and discuss this?

i havent had any recent bloodtests to check any improvements, i cant remember my original reading as it was a few months ago and they phoned me with my results but i will certain follow this up though..it hs been two months since ive been taking my vitamins..should i atleast feel some sort of change?

Yes . It is best to go back to your doctor who can refer you to a consultant . This is what happened to me. I was referred to a neurologist who did 10 blood tests , MRI on head and neck and nerve and muscle tests . I get results on 30 Jan. Rhodri.

Hiya eileen I've read a lot about autoimmune disorder and I thought that myself..the doctors have just put my symptoms down to my lack of vitamins but if I don't feel any change within a couple of weeks I will go back to the doctors..think that will be the best solution and have further tests done

Hiya..did you go back to the doctors about your muscle weakness? I stil have gastric problems..quite a lot really..its just awful..my stomach just looks and feels bloated all the time

Oh great..thankyou so much for your advice..they havent done them tests on me just yet..I think that should definitely be my next option..they never even suggested then options to me..please keep updated with your results..would like to know how you get on..thanks

I had a severe Vit  def and put on Vit D drops but the dr did weekly bloods including calcium and parathyroid hormone levels and phosphase.

What was your level?
