Hi all,
I am 13 weeks post op for a left hip replacement. recovery is going fairly well, although I do still have muscle pain walking. Not bad pain mind you. Anyway, my GP suggests continuing to take Tylenol or Ibuprofen as needed. I remember I took ibuprofen for quite a while after my hip scope many years ago… but can’t remember exactly how long.
So I am curious to hear from those who have been through a hip replacement already. how long did you take over the counter pain killers like Tylenol or Ibuprofen on both a regular basis, and on an as needed basis?
Cheers
hi I’m eleven weeks on and still have to take over the counter pain relief particularly at night, and if i have had a particularly energetic day. i have been advised to take them until necessary
hope this helps you.
long time ago now, but I was off prescription pain killers by 10 days. Over the counter meds by a week later then just at night for another couple of weeks on a regular basis. occasional as needed thereafter
took tylenol the first 4-5 weeks as necessary got off the NORCO after 1 week. everyone is different i had posterior
As needed for me, on each of my 3 recoveries - one THR, two revisions.
I think I must have been very lucky or have a high pain threshold. I had morphine for twenty four hours after the op and then was offered Tramadol which I did not take, just Tylenol. I carried on with the Tylenol for about five days, I am not sure if I needed it or not as I did not seem to have any pain, then I just stopped. Incredibly lucky.
I took a Tylenol 500 mg when I had some aches. If I was going somewhere and knew I’d walk a lot, I took 1 in advance.
How about range of motion. Extension and flexion are coming back nicely, but internal and external rotation are still quite limited. How long did it take to you all to get ROM back?
