how long where you in hospital ?

hiya

mjust curious as to whats the norma lentgh of stay following anterior and prosteria repair?

Dr had said 1 maybe 2 nights but when all my paper work came from hospital they said length of stay is 3 nights?

I am in Uk and going through Bupa, so now just curious if they put that as a precaution or will i really be there 3 night?

Hi mosnippy my stay was originally for 1 nite stay but I was so sick with all the meds I had to stay 2 nites I had p@a repair

Hi mosnippy my paper work said 1 night but once admitted was told that was an error and that I would be there for 2 to 3 nights, as it turned out I was allowed to go home at 7.30pm on the 3rd day, this was due to my bladder not emptying enough once the cathater was removed.

oh no im dreading it as i am always sick with general anaesthetic regardless of what anti sickness meds they give me im dreading this part

I didn't have general anesthetic I had spinal block and sedation I wold deffo recommend this if ur given the choice, its a good pain control too

I know some BUPA hospitals seem to keep people in longer, but when I had my op on the NHS they'd told me I'd be in for one night, then gave me an information sheet that said two or more but then I found out I was fit enough to be put on the 'fast track' system so I was just in for one, so I guess the answer to this is to ask:-)  Or maybe they'll see how you are at the time and if you're well enough to go, they'll let you go.  Maybe it's got something to do with being able to demonstrate that bladder and bowels are working fine, too.

yeah this makes sense maybe that is the max time they alloted to me but ill go home quicker, to be honest dont mind staying in longer tyen less of a burden at home lol

I was very happy to go home the day after my op (all was working very well and I felt great) but I have to say, my time in the NHS hospital at Lincoln was superb!  I couldn't fault the treatment at all and I was so well looked after there and my goodness - the food - WOW - I never though I'd be impressed with hospital food!  I reckon Jamie Oliver had done his bit there LOL!  But my husband was brilliant too, and looked after me so well when I got home.  He'd even put my socks on for me LOL!

It's usually around 2-3 nights but some hospitals discharge ladies the same day which I think is absolutely appalling. I was in a private hospital and I was told I could stay as long as I wanted!! I left after the 3rd night. As you will be in a private room I would stay as long as you can to get plenty of rest.

that is what i am thinking i have a 3 year old at home, and i know i will be tempted to try help i am terrible at sitting still and not doing anything also horrible at asking for help terribly independent so this is going to be major adjuatment as i know i cant risk undoing anything! lol so might stay as long as im allowed

I am in the uk and went to a Bupa hospital. I was told 3 nights possibly 4 but I ended up only staying 1 night. I think the key issue is how well you pass urine after the catheter is removed. I drank lots of water and although I was not fully emptying my bladder I was passing enough urine. Please remember to take Movical as prescribed for your bowels and you should be fine. My operation was 2 weeks Thursday and I am doing well, off painkillers  and taking it easy in this horrible weather. I went for a very short walk to the end of the road yesterday and that was good. Rested with a book in the afternoon.

thanks i will diff be taking stuff for thaf im dreading that part as i struggle with constipation (think thats where part of issue came in lol)

I was told, before they knew I had Ehlers Danlos, and before the other repair failed so quickly (because of the Ehlers Danlos) that if I wanted the posterior repair done, they could do it as a day case.  I never really gave it much thought about coming home so quickly, but because of the Ehlers Danlos and chance of failure, they wouldn't be keen on doing it anyway.  But I'm very happpy with the prolapse pessary, so it wouldn't be my first choice (again, because of the Ehlers Danlos) now.

Really, it wasn't scary at all.  My only concern on the day was if they'd have time to do the anterior repair as well as the hysterectomy because they were running late and I was getting worried they'd say there wasn't time (they'd sort of forgotten to book in long enough for repairs, and ended up working later in theatre on me than they should have done, to squeeze that in too) so once they called me to get changed for theatre, you've never seen anyone move so fast LOL!  But as I've said before, someone asked me if I was worried about the op and my reply was 'not at all - I'm not doing it - I'll just be asleep' LOL!  But just accept the help when you need it and enjoy the relaxation - prepare for it with hobbies you can do sitting down and resting:-))))  I bought Christmas presents online while I was relaxing, so it worked out well:-)))  I wish you well and wish you a good speedy recovery:-)))

Wasn't hungry!!!!?????  I've NEVER not been hungry LOL!  I wonder if my hospital had a very good chef then, too, even though they were under 'special measures'.
