How quickly can herpes be contracted?

Hi there,

I'm a man who has Herpes type hsv-2.

At the weekend I was with a woman and we ended up in bed together. I didn't have a condom so we weren't having sex. However things got pretty heated and in a moment of pure, drunken stupidiy we started to have intercourse. It was only for 4 / 5 seconds until I realised how stupid I was without a condom as I could infect her.

I don't currently have any outbreaks but how likely is it that she could be infected? I hate myself for it, I'm so ashamed for doing what I did. I just hope I haven't given it to her.

Any thoughts on the chances of her getting it would be great.

Thanks,

An idiot

Dear idiot :-)

If you take the medication her chances will be reduced to like ..5% and you need to thrust in her 20-30 times to cause skin friction to really pass it down. It seems like that did not happen. So it seems like she will be fine. Even if u are not on the pill, the friction thing is important. My ex bf had GH so I asked my Gyno a million questions. That is what he told me and he made the disease sound like not a big deal. Also did you know In some countries Gh isn't a stud? Also one last thing! You seem to have good character for doing what you did. You should be proud you are a good person.

Hello. Oh dear I know what you mean tho when your in the mood you just do it. To be honest from what I've read you can get it from using a condom it cuts the chances bit doesn't stop it. You do need to tell her so she can be ready for it when it happens. I really wouldn't want her to catch it and not realise until a week later when the blisters came out like I did. You can still catch it from doing oral sex aswell. Hope she hasn't got it but she could be a carrier or it may not activate until years to come but you do need to tell her.

Good luck.

I was regrettably "sloppy" with an asymptomatic HSV-2 guy friend who allegedly didn't know his status and I developed symptoms the very next morning.

Thought it was initially an atypical UTI, but it was actually herpetic urethritis, followed by a "pimple" and minor lesions over the ensuing days. From just that one time. My doc says I was really unlucky. Sigh.

Anyway, it really is possible for a single encounter to pass HSV-2, with symptoms showing up in just 1-2 days, yet others can be sexually active with a carrier for years and never get it.

I should clarify. By the very next morning, I mean one day after (I left his place in the morning, so the morning after that I noticed symptoms). Also, we were "sloppy" for a lot longer than a few seconds, but nevertheless...
